Damon joins new supergroup for
Blur frontman recruits Nick
Zinner, Alex Kapranos and Flea for collaboration with Fresh
Touch's "Latest Style" vinyl
Blur's Damon Albarn has
united Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea, Yeah Yeah Yeahs
guitarist Nick Zinner and Franz Ferdinand frontman Alex
Kapranos with Richard Russell and Rodaidh McDonald's Fresh
Touch for a special release in aid of Oxfam's Syria appeal.
The single, "Latest Style",
will be made available exclusively at the biannual Independent
Label Market taking place at London's Old Spitalfields Market
on 13 July, an event which showcases offerings from
independent labels such as Fabric, XL, Hospital, R&S, Domino,
4AD, O Genesis and Moshi Moshi.
As well as the Fresh Touch
project, there will a further nine one-off tracks available,
including Swamp81 boss Loefah, who breaks his five year
silence with the release of single Western (Did A Skank).
Elsewhere, there's a vinyl reissue for Beth Orton's Carmella
by Four Tet as well as a new Factory Floor re-work of Tim
Burgess's The Doors Of Then. Costing £10 each, the 180 gram
12" vinyl records feature an etching on the b-side and are
individually hand numbered, presented in a screenprinted
die-cut heavyweight disco sleeve.
"Latest Style" will be
Damon's first release since Gorillaz co-creator Jamie Hewlett
last month confirmed that both Blur and Gorillaz would be
recording new albums.
