Performers including TURIN
BRAKES, DAMON ALBARN
and BETH ORTON are to take part
in a unique gig-going experience aboard the LONDON
EYE this summer.
The event (June 21), called Flight
5065, is the brainchild of coffee
company Cafedirect, who have
organised the airborne arts fest to promote fair
trade.
There will be three separate
30-minute departures during the
evening, although passengers will not be able to
pick their capsule according to the performance
inside.
Damon Albarn will
be showcasing new African music from his Honest
Jons label, while Turin
Brakes will play an acoustic set
featuring material from their new album Jackinabox,
released on May 30.
It's such a bizarre and
brilliant concept, said singer Olly
Knights. If you want to make a
noise about African issues pick the biggest,
oddest landmark in London and
shout really loudly from the top of it.
The event will focus on celebrating
African culture and questioning western attitudes
to the continent in the run-up to the G8
summit of major powers to be held at Gleneagles,
Perthshire in July.
