Yahoo!: Animation serie directed by
Dave gets TV debut
There's no longer any need for
animation fans to keep watching those endless
re-runs of The Simpsons and South Park because
Channel 4 are about to unveil a genuinely
hilarious homegrown alternative to those
aforementioned US hits!
Empire Sq makes its hugely
anticipated TV debut on February 18, taking over
the 4Music zone for a 12 week run at 11:30pm.
Written by Matt Morgan and directed by none other
than Blur drummer Dave Rowntree, the show has
already received a BAFTA nomination since
debuting on the web last year and looks set to go
stratospheric in 2005. Without going into too
much detail (well it is rather rude), Empire Sq
follows delinquent school leavers Richie, Hooks
and Rabbit on their misadventures in bestiality,
cannibalism, electro-shock therapy, crucifixion
and all the other issues affecting young people
today.
"With The Simpsons doing so
well, it's great to support new animation that
has a distinctly British tone of voice,"
said Neil McCallum, commissioning editor for T4.
What's particularly interesting
about Empire Sq is that it's the first
interactive animation series in the world.
Viewers are invited to contribute their own
buildings to the Empire Sq landscape via the
website. The producers also plan make Empire Sq
available for download on 3G mobile phones in the
near future so you can carry your favourite
episodes with you wherever you go and there's
already even talk of a full length feature film
as well!
If you can't wait until February 18

of the show at www.empiresq.com.
