Coxon goes ape over Gorillaz!
Graham Coxon has risked
angering Blur colleague Damon Albarn
by dismissing his Gorillaz
partner-in-crime Dan the Automator in an
exclusive dotmusic interview.
Coxon, who openly admits he
has no time for Gorillaz' music, told us
there was no chance of hip-hop kingpin Dan
Nakamura producing the forthcoming Blur
album, insisting, "who the f*ck is Dan
the Automator?"
He elaborated: "I'm not
interested in that. Nothing personal, but it's
just not my world. It's a bit too Hoxton for
me."
Coxon, who releases his new
solo album 'Crow Sit On Blood Tree' next
month through his own Transcopic record
label, concluded: "I can totally appreciate
it (Gorillaz) on one level, but I'm in a
completely different place to that music."
In our interview, to be posted in
early August, Coxon also admitted that Blur
had approached Fatboy Slim about producing
the follow-up to 1999's 'Blur' and that he
wanted to play "just feedback and nothing
else" on the record.
Beyond the jokes, Coxon
explained: "We're all very concerned for
each other and we do genuinely like each other an
awful lot. Because we're into so much different
stuff, it becomes daunting.
"We just need to get back to
it. It's never been a problem, we spark each
other off very well. I don't really know what to
expect, and that's the way it should be," Coxon
explained.
