NME.com:
Les get ready to rumble!
BLUR man ALEX
JAMES' side project FAT LES
have made another foray into the world of pop, NME.COM
can reveal - with another football song!
The track is the new Fulham
Football Club anthem due to be released
on Monday (December 11) - but it's hardly been a
hit with Fulham fans.
'We're Not Real Madrid'
was recorded in London last
month by Fat Les, led by
lifelong fan of the Division One
leaders Keith Allen and with Fulham
Chairman Mohamed Al Fayed, who raps on
the single.
The single was recorded under the
pseudonym of Colin And The Cottagers
- 'The Cottagers' being Fulham's
nickname after their Craven Cottage
ground.
The chorus goes: "We're not Real
Madrid/We're not Barcelona/
We are Fulham FC/And
Al Fayed's the
owner", and the tune features a large
chunk of king of suave Dean Martin's
1958 hit 'Volare'.
The track was due it's live premiere
at half-time at Fulham's recent
home game against Grimsby at Craven
Cottage. Adverse weather conditions made
this impossible - just as well.
When the Fulham
fans were asked over the PA if they wanted to
hear the songs again, it was met with a
resounding barrage of boos, and chants of 'No!
No! No!"
Meanwhile, Blur's Damon
Albarn is close to completing his 'solo'
album inspired by his trip this summer to the
African country of Mali for Oxfam's
'On The Line', campaign.
A spokesperson for the band told NME.COM
that Damon recorded much of the
album on the trip, and that it would feature a
host of contributions from London-based Malian
musicians. Details will be unveiled soon.
