The new Coldplay single...
I'm not really a fan of Coldplay although Chris Martin clearly has a great way with a melody, and I'd probably buy a singles compilation if released. Heard the first play of their new single on TFI Friday last week.

A DJ on Absolute Radio described it as the kind of music you might hear accompanying an advert for investing in an obscure African country on a cable TV station whilst on an overseas business trip! Harsh but fair?

Surprisingly, its very good I think, and their best track since 2008 (although I did like a good few from Mylo Xyloto).
I'm surprised they didn't already try and take a stab at disco/funk before, to be honest. They've proven they're capable for almost half their recording career now.

Oh cool, they've entered their copying Zooropa phase...
Once again Coldplay just sounds like U2 with all the sharp bits sanded down so as not to offend any possible listener and reach the widest audience.

it's quite good. vary catchy, happy song

Coldplay sound like U2? Never really thought that before. Coldplay have always (or at least often) had lots of keyboard in their songs whereas U2 are a guitar band. In fact, I'd say it was the David Evans guitar sound that really makes U2 standout.DrSleepless wrote:Oh cool, they've entered their copying Zooropa phase...

Not a big fan of either band though, TBH.

It's catchy. I like it.
Parachutes and A Rush of Blood to the Head are great albums.

No fan of Coldplay here, and this doesn't alter that. It's different for them for sure, but it just sounds like bland chart fodder to my ears. It'll do well of course, it's Coldplay.
Oh, and that typography on the official artwork is an abomination.

The album's leaked and it's pretty shocking and bland. The single is the best thing on it so far.

I know what you mean Dr Sleepless. They are a kind of 'Take That' for the rock audienceNeal Zeal wrote:Coldplay sound like U2? Never really thought that before.DrSleepless wrote:Oh cool, they've entered their copying Zooropa phase...

However generic the new record might be, I somehow dig it. It has the dancy vibe in it, which is something I wanted to hear after the first single. Title track, Everglow, AoaL and Kaleidoscope are highlights so far. And those might be the only tracks that I will save out of this record in the end.

Their Zooropa phase?
Other than that Zooropa has a disco track too (albiet one more dark and not so obviously disco) I don't see it.

Re: The new Coldplay single...
I finally sat down and decided to give it a listen.... Not all too impressed...seems rather forced... also..sounds a lot like Maroon 5 and that is really BAD thing..... Coldplay seems to be at their best when recording ballads.....I cannot get into this whatsoever.....and just dreading they're going to be performing during Super Bowl 50s Halftime show.....
