Masterpiece. Album quite consistent, with no filler track. One of the best albums have ever made by Damon. Very strong lyrically and musically.

I got surprised by some mixed reviews (The Guardian, NME, etc).

I agree with whoever said Last Boston is one of Damon’s most beautiful songs ever. Simply breathtaking.

Those albums are masterpieces. There can be more than one...

I just completed listening to the entire album for the 2nd time and it is really starting to grow on me. I now must retract my prior comment regarding "The Last Man To Leave", it just fits/suits the album perfectly. I agree that the "Poison Tree" again exhibits Damon's brilliant knack of closing out an album.

My only criticism is that I wish more of Tony's drums, Paul's bass, and Damon's keyboards were featured and they jammed more, but they along w/Simon still sound tight together which is remarkable after 11 years worth of separation. Again, we can somewhat ponder how this would have sounded as a Blur album, but that's rather trivial.

I wasn't in the best state of mind to be honest while I ranked it a 6.5/10 upon my first listen.... I consider it now a 8/10 and that can most definitely improve during subsequent listens. By far Damon's best effort since their self-titled..... That doesn't include "TMW" since that's completely a Blur effort and not just Damon driven which I believe some of those prior reviews meant by claiming this is "Damon's" masterpiece because Blur is a sum of all four!

I didn't order it but that's what people are saying, some record stores updated the release date too.

One more review from the Guardian (again 3/5)

I've been trying to rank the songs from best to least favourite (I don't want to use the word WORST) and I'm having a lot of trouble. So far this is what I have:

1 - Lady Boston
2 -
3 -
4 -
5 -
6 -
7 -
8 -
9 -
10 - Gun To The Head
11 - The Last Man To Leave

2-9 I'm having a lot of trouble with. So many great songs on this album. Only Gun To The Head and The Last Man To Leave are below a 7/10. Everything else is at least an 8/10 with Lady Boston a 10/10.

1. Lady Boston
2. Drifters and Trawlers
3. The Poison Tree
4. Merrie Land
5. The Last Man to Leave
6. The Great Fire
7. Ribbons
8. The Truce of Twilight
9. Gun to the Head
10. Nineteen Seventeen

Christ, that was difficult. I had to basically work backwards from 10-1 in order of least to most interesting. None of these songs are bad.
