Re: Stranglers Thread
Sorry for my double post, but I located the "No Mercy" promotional video and it's hysterical like most of their videos were! https://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm10300090" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Louie - 'Mad Hatter' has a very 60s vibe to it, I can imagine The Kinks doing it.
And I like the jazz-type trumpet at the end, as per e.g. Alan Price.

Someone brought-up an excellent point that the Stranglers "nicked" some of "Dead End Street" towards the end and then 4 years later they covered "All Day and All of the Night": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6k3tNNRS_I" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; which I might have before...
Hugh left the band because he could no longer tolerate them not hitting it back here in the States and that's quite a shame!

I always liked them, but for some reason they seemed never to have the kudos of The Jam or The Clash.

Re: Stranglers Thread
I believe the Stranglers were too complex for the masses (especially in the States) to figure out. "Golden Brown" should have been more of a hit here and should have spurred the reaction of the early-mid Clash and Jam albums did, but even that song is awfully difficult to embrace fully except for us musical snobs! hahaMallard No. 22 wrote:I always liked them, but for some reason they seemed never to have the kudos of The Jam or The Clash.

I bet their songs would be hits now if they came in present times.....

Yes I don't see why they shouldn't be.

They had more of a European feel to their songs than most of their contemporaries which is why they more than likely appeal here in the States. Even "Golden Brown" is awfully complex to figure out!

Yes, I didn't realise he was as old as 71.
His keyboard playing was so distinct, maybe best exemplified on 'No More Heroes'.
R.I.P. Dave Greenfield.

Jet Black their drummer turns 82 years-old this August and had several recent health complications that forced him to retire from touring. They were quite older compared to their contemporaries so it was very difficult to fully label as Punk which they were initially associated with.
I was hoping they would reunite with Hugh before it was too late!
