BECK SURVIVOR: THE B-SIDES (Round 12)

Post by Miki » 30 Nov 2015, 00:23

We've now covered all of Beck's albums and all the stand-alone singles.

Here's a summary of the Survivors so far:

Heart Is A Drum
Orphans
Strange Apparition
Broken Drum
Guess I'm Doing Fine
Mixed Bizness
Nobody's Fault But My Own
Where It's At
Hollow Log
Beercan
Modesto
Gettin' Home
Deadweight

Next, Beck's B-Sides and this is going to take some time. Even not counting remixes, instrumentals and same/different versions of songs we already voted in the albums rounds, we are left with 32 songs (I think I counted them all!). 1993-99 was a great time for B-Sides and Beck has some fabulous songs in his back catalogue. But after Midnite Vultures, there isn't a lot happening. No B-sides for Sea Change, just remixes for Guero, and only one for The information. Modern Guilt was the last time we had some really cool B-Sides. In recent times, nothing for Morning Phase, extended versions of the main tracks for the 2013 singles, plus a couple more for the singles in 2012.

As always, each song is a round, and each round you vote for your LEAST FAVOURITE song and that song will then be eliminated. When a song is eliminated the results will be posted and the album track list updated without the song that was voted off, and then we continue until we are left with one song from each album, the overall winner.

So here's the list I came up with (which should be complete):

1. Corvette Bummer
2. Alcohol
3. Fume
4. Totally Confused
5. Asskizz Powergrudge (Payback! '94)
6. Spanking Room
7. Untitled (Cupcake)
8. Whiskey Can Can
9. Clock
10. Electric Music and the Summer People (there are two versions of this song, both B-sides)
11. Lemonade
12. .000.000
13. Brother
14. Devil Got My Woman
15. Erase the Sun
16. SA-5
17. Halo of Gold
18. Black Balloon
19. One of These Days
20. Diamond in the Sleaze
21. Salt in the Wound
22. This is My Crew
23. Dirty Dirty
24. Arabian Nights
25. Midnite Vultures
26. Zatyricon
27. O Menina
28. Vampire Voltage No. 6
29. Bonfire Blondes
30. Half and Half
31. Corrina, Corrina
32. Blue Randy

My first vote goes to Untitled (Cupcake), B-side to Steve Threw Up. Essentially, 46 seconds of Beck shouting into a microphone.

Can't disagree with that one: Untitled (Cupcake).

Not that we are in any specific hurry.

Anyway... enough time has passed.

Untitled (Cupcake) is eliminated with 2 votes.

The new tracklist goes as follows:

1. Corvette Bummer
2. Alcohol
3. Fume
4. Totally Confused
5. Asskizz Powergrudge (Payback! '94)
6. Spanking Room
7. Whiskey Can Can
8. Clock
9. Electric Music and the Summer People (there are two versions of this song, both B-sides)
10. Lemonade
11. .000.000
12. Brother
13. Devil Got My Woman
14. Erase the Sun
15. SA-5
16. Halo of Gold
17. Black Balloon
18. One of These Days
19. Diamond in the Sleaze
20. Salt in the Wound
21. This is My Crew
22. Dirty Dirty
23. Arabian Nights
24. Midnite Vultures

26. O Menina
27. Vampire Voltage No. 6
28. Bonfire Blondes
29. Half and Half
30. Corrina, Corrina
31. Blue Randy

My next vote goes to Spanking Room (B-side to Beercan)... pretty much the same reason as before lol

I'm afraid I don't know most of these songs  I'll provide the tiebreaker if needed though!

3. Fume
4. Totally Confused
5. Asskizz Powergrudge (Payback! '94)

10. .000.000
11. Brother
12. Devil Got My Woman
13. Erase the Sun
14. SA-5
15. Halo of Gold
16. Black Balloon
17. One of These Days
18. Diamond in the Sleaze
19. Salt in the Wound
20. This is My Crew
21. Dirty Dirty
22. Arabian Nights
23. Midnite Vultures
24. Zatyricon
25. O Menina
26. Vampire Voltage No. 6
27. Bonfire Blondes
28. Half and Half
29. Corrina, Corrina
30. Blue Randy

May as well get rid of Asskizz Powergrudge (Payback! '94) too :P

I made all the tracks live links, if people need a refresher or don't know the songs. Pretty impressive playlist, actually. And it's the B-sides!

You beat me to it

If I put ALL b-sides on here, there would be double the number of songs! There are several versions and remixes of Devils Haircut and Where It's At alone, not to mention E-Pro, Hell Yes, Girl...

Perhaps we'll have a remixes Survivor

.000.000 is eliminated with 2 votes.

The new tracklist goes as follows:

1. Corvette Bummer
2. Alcohol
3. Fume
4. Totally Confused
5. Whiskey Can Can
6. Clock
7. Electric Music and the Summer People (there are two versions of this song, 1997 version and 1998 version)
8. Lemonade
9. Brother
10. Devil Got My Woman
11. Erase the Sun
12. SA-5
13. Halo of Gold
14. Black Balloon
15. One of These Days
16. Diamond in the Sleaze
17. Salt in the Wound
18. This is My Crew
19. Dirty Dirty
20. Arabian Nights
21. Midnite Vultures
22. Zatyricon
23. O Menina
24. Vampire Voltage No. 6
25. Bonfire Blondes
26. Half and Half
27. Corrina, Corrina
28. Blue Randy

I've kind of eliminated all the obvious choices, so now voting is going to become a little trickier. I'll go with Zatyricon. As fun as the song is - basically a prank call made by Tony Hoffer (one of the credited producers on Midnite Vultures) to a botox studio - is not as memorable as others in the list.
