Upgrade to phpBB 3.2

Hello all!

First, a little technical background about the upgrade: On January 1st, my web hosting service will drop support for PHP 5, a scripting language used by the current forum version (phpBB 3.0). Because of this, the forum must be upgraded to a newer version (phpBB 3.2) which can take advantage of PHP 7+.

The upgrade will start on 12th December 2018 at around 9pm GMT and will continue for at least two days. During this time the forum will be inaccessible.

Once the upgrade is over, the forum will have a new look (update: I decided to stick with the good ol' style) with a more mobile-friendly user interface. All old posts, private messages, user accounts and most of the forum settings should remain unchanged.

I expect everything goes well, but of course there are some risks in the upgrade process. That's why I strongly advise everyone to backup their most important forum posts and private messages before the upgrade.

Mostly because I'm a novice with these things.

I expect I'll be working mostly with the forum layout/style (it's a shame that this present style cannot be transferred to the new board).

Ah it's a shame the style doesn't transfer. Looks like support for it went quite a while ago.

So we will be getting a new theme, how existing .

I've not used phpbb for a while but if you need a hand with the upgrade let me know.

Yeah, it's now finished apart from some small tweaks (links to open in new tabs etc).

Logged on and got really confused for a minute because the skin on the forum is different to what I had before. Then remembered the upgrade!
