Best live shows ev's?

Post by OilyWaters » 28 May 2015, 11:42

I've always had a healthy collection of live show bootlegs, but was gob smacked at the range of shows that's been amassed in the 'Download Archive'

Rather than trawl through my copy of Black Book, I wondered if anyone could recommend a live show that sums up each blur album/stage in their career. Perhaps encapsulating the widest range of tracks, or that covers most/all of their album back catalogue? It would be good to find the shows which have high quality/clear audio recordings, rather than those shows which might have been "special" but who's quality is not up to scratch.

Looking forward to hearing some suggestions.

I would vote for the Live at the Coronet for the Think Tank Tour. Colossal.
And the Ally Pally show for Parklife.
I've never really liked the tour they made in 99. You can tell that the whole band is exhausted and about to implode...dark times...

I guess that's another way to phrase my question. What is the "best" gig from each of the available years in terms of audio quality/set list.

Thanks

https://mega.co.nz/#F!ZMkHzTAJ!w9J-Mj7mDCRk8q-AxOH5dQ" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

collection of favourite versions of tracks (excluding the pretty essential bbc live broadcasts)

a few standouts would be

wembley 1995
dublin rds 96
melbourne or brixton 97
glasto is the only 98 show but its fantastic
viva overdrive is a great set from 99
roskilde or coronet from 2003

That's amazing, elasticaman. Thanks!

I'd say Dublin '96 is my favourite Blur show ever, just so much energy.

I'd say La Bataclan was the best 2003 show, at least from shows that I've heard. Ambulance live in particular was fucking amazing!

Ambulance sounded great at La Bataclan, it's a great live track. It's beautiful and raw, which matches straight up to the lyrics in my opinion.

Viva Overdrive 1999 gig puzzles me... there's an amazing version of Trimm Trabb in elasticaman collection on Mega, whereas in the TV footage this song is absent...
Also Setlist.fm page includes Trimm Trabb... https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/blur/199 ... 44b6e.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; but in the video between Mellow Song and NDLTR they play Trailerpark...

Can anyone explain this mystery?

Viva Overdrive was a radio/TV show on the popular music channel Viva. So Trimm Trabb was maybe cut out of a later broadcasting or they made space for adverts.

...Mmmm, I'm not convinced... What does Black Book say about it?

In the first edition of Black Book, it's written that Trimm Trabb was played after Mellow Song and that it was very agressive.
