Gorillaz dream Collaborations

Post by Mark87uk » 16 Nov 2020, 18:04

Id have loved to see David Bowie do something with them, although obviously not possible unfortunately now.

Personally I always hoped we would see Beck on a Gorillaz record, and now we have. Robert Smith as well which is awesome.

Not sure if they have a decent relationship, but I'd love to see Ian Brown on something in the future, what about everyone else?

That'd be interesting. Though my dream collaboration would be with Alex Turner or Neil Hannon.

I want more Beck and Gorillaz. One song just isn't enough.

Others:
Smokey Robinson
Ray Davies
Matt Sharp/The Rentals
Paul McCartney
Adele

More Beck totally Tom, and Ray Davies too.

Loved We have a technical with Matt Sharp so other stuff would be cool.

Yeah, likewise. Don't remember where I found it, but it was many, many years ago. At least 15 I think.

Thom Yorke for me and I always thought you could do something freaky with Alex Kapranos vocals

Also how have we never had a Gorillaz feat blur or Gorillaz feat Graham Coxon, I thought that would be a good opportunity for everyone

Great question. Off the top of my head:

- Patti Smith
- Tom Waits
- Donald Fagan (from Steely Dan)
- Bobby Gillespie
- Killer Mike (of Run The Jewels)
- David Byrne
- YG
- Shane McGowan
- Elvis Costello
- Tyler the Creator
- Kanye West
- Neil Young
- John Lydon

Graham's been featured on two Gorillaz songs, Submission and Magic City.

David Byrne, Alex Kapranos and Thom Yorke are all great ideas

I’d add:
Bon Iver
The Horrors (I know it has been done but would love it to see the light of day)
Hot Chip
Ghostpoet
The Flaming Lips
Yannis Phillipakis
Paul Weller
Nick Cave
Guy Garvey
Christine and the Queens

All great calls. Can imagine Flaming Lips and Christine & The Queens working really well.

I nearly put Nick Cave on my list but somehow couldn't see it happening, dunno why. Maybe that one could come off. Top of my list, if I wasn't being unrealistic, would be Bob Dylan, but much as I adore him and his music, I just can't work out in my head any way in which it might work musically. Same would be true of someone like Springsteen, say (and probably Neil Young, though I did include him on my list).
