New release: Live at the BBC

Post by Vern » 12 Jul 2019, 12:17

There seems to be a new 10" being released beginning August which contains tracks of the BBC session for Parklife.

It's probably a precursor to a release containing most if not all of their BBC recordings.

This looks like a bootleg. First, why this? Second, nothing about it on the official channels. Third, no artwork.

It might be a bootleg, it might not. That will all be revealed in time. Sometimes retailers list releases before it’s been officially announced; it happens fairly frequently.

But I’m more interested in your comment around “why this?”

Why not? A Blur BBC release makes total sense. Popular British band who played loads of BBC sessions.

Most bands that I have seen release a full album of BBC sessions. This is just one session on vinyl only. Seems kinda random.

Yeah, I think sadly I'm also in the cynical camp here.

My reasoning being if a full BBC live release was planned it would surely be a range of performances across their career, this promo is presumably from the same performance given the track listing.

Secondly if there was to be a promo for it, well G&B makes sense, but you would be looking at 75% minimum of the tracks being well known hits and not a chance Lot 105 makes the advance promo

Nah this is classic shit marketing and a disappointing way to find out about something cool: it's legitimate.

Every Damon Albarn project has some strange mandate where his promotional companies seem embarrassed to big up anything. This'll be announced through a press release like it's 1991. The artwork won't be officially announced, it'll just be on store's websites. And they'll release a video for hype like... three months after this is released.

Hoping it’s official
Hoping it’s in advance of a bbc sessions box set
That’s something I’d drop a load of cash on if theres a nice vinyl set

But of course with it being a parklife era session it could be some kind of 25th anniversary thing

It's listed on merchbar, which is somewhat legit I think??

Skeptical, but will be presently surprised if it's legit.

surely it has to be part of something bigger

The release is official then.

Hopefully they do a complete BBC sessions set, or at least one containing most of the sessions.

Yep, fingers well and truly crossed for that.

Apologies for mistakenly thinking you were wrong!

Well that was anti climactic
A T-shirt and 4 session tracks with no artwork

What a miserable “celebration”
