I love it, but after reading the comments on various social media I'm also a bit surprised that *everybody* seems to like it - it's not easy listening at all!

I love it! So much! Damon, when he sits down and writes a great song, there are few things better in the world. Love the production as well, it was the only letdown of the first album
I can't wear that, stupid rain hat

Exactly, he can't write them anymore, his magic went years ago sadly...bugman wrote:Has it chorus? Where?Sledge Hammer wrote:Love the chorus! Damon is back! his best tune in years.....ermmmm

Everyone has their own taste in music but seriously you only like a song if the song has a chorus?!pretty basic I have to say..the new song is amazing, the music, lyrics, the way He sings...one of the best songs He has done in a while. I can't wait to hear the whole album!

Haha yeah... the whole chorus thing is ridiculous. What generic taste somebody has if they only want songs with choruses. What are you a 15 year old girl?

Does anyone else try to envision if this were a Blur song instead, how differently it might sound especially w/Graham on guitar and providing back-up vocals? I feel they would have even enhanced the song better, but this is absolutely no criticism towards Simon, Paul, and Tony!

The Now Now has lots of good choruses.
Tranz, Hollywood, Magic City, Souk Eye...
And obviously "hit single with a good chorus" isn't what he was going for here. He pretty much says so in the Lou Reed quote.

Re: TGTBTQ: New single "Merrie Land"
I think it’s a very good song but not the best choice for a first single. I do agree about the chorus though. Same thing from start to finish with no variation. Nice enough but I’m expecting better songs on the album.
A good start!
A good start!

Well, you said you think it's a very good song so there you go!! I haven't really read anything but positive comments about the song so I think it's clearly a good choice as a single and working as intended. Seems like more of teaser if anything, yes "single". but I think the days of singles are gone. Especially for Damon.. He has nothing more to prove and TGTBQ isn't really a "pop" project intended to produce hits.

I agree. This isn’t a single in my opinion although it will be seen as one. It’s just a song that they released.
