Dave Rowntree's influences.

We are all well aware that Alex was massively influenced by 80s pop and post-punk bands like Duran Duran and New Order(from what I recall from Bit of a blur). Damon and Graham both cite 60s pop bands like The Kinks, The Beatles, The Who, early Floyd/Syd Barrett with Damon also taking on inspiration from a diverse array of other music from Bowie to Eddie Grant in his formative years, but I can't recall Dave ever discussing what his main influences and inspirations were!?

He is an incredibly good, diverse drummer. He's capable of playing aggressive, fast, hardcore beats with solid conviction and energy(Popscene, Chinese bombs, Jubilee), he can groove very well with remarkable feel(There's no other way, Music is my radar, Ghost Ship, Stereotypes) and he can totally compliment more ambient experimental stuff with very minimalist but innovative rhythms and beats(Caravan, Out of time, Trimm Trab, He thought of cars). He always plays the most perfect beats to fit each song. Incredibly intelligent player. I'm just curious where the hell it all comes from!?

According to The Life of Blur, he was listening to Cream, The Rolling Stones and Jimi Hendrix when he was growing up. But yeah, there are few interviews about it…

This is probably a good thread to re-share my interview with Dave:
