Gig: Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne, 28 Jul 2015

Post by Pavlich » 26 Jul 2015, 23:03

So Blur'll keep on keeping on with their Aussie tour tomorrow night at Rod Laver in Melbourne. Victoria always seems well represented musically online, so how many from here'll be going along?

I actually went to Hyde Park the other month which was my first time seeing Blur. That show was incredible; the size of the crowd, the energy, a good set, great people, the rain, and just knowing you're seeing Blur in the city that started and keeps Blur going. So I'm not going to compare that to this, if anything tomorrow night'll just be a nice top-off: after all, like most antipodeans, I never thought I'd see Blur once let alone twice.

Oh yeah, and I don't know how many people have been avoiding setlists like me, but can we potentially keep any changes hidden in white and smaller text? It's always a great buzz hearing a song you didn't expect to. The only change I've heard of since Hyde Park is Pyongyang – a song everyone else seems to adore but I find a bit.. not bad, but not worth the hype. Hoping for some other Magic Whip cuts.

Oh yeah and Jamie T! Crazy one-two there. It'll be bizarre to not have to endure the boredom/excitement of some support act you don't care about. I've been into him for years and remember me and my mate at about 15 saying "can't wait for his follow up next year!" since about 2009. He was awesome in Perth at the Astor on Australia Day, and it'll be good to see the likely lad again. Can anyone from Sydney say how many songs he played? Seems he has a slot for 45. Nine, 10, 11 songs?

Jamie did about five or six songs from memory. Was really weird to see him do such a short one compared to normal.

Also for anyone travelling to/living in Melbourne, I just went and saw the David Bowie exhibition at ACMI in fed square and could not recommend it more highly.

What time do you reckon one should get there to get to the front of the mosh?

Yep, I'll be there. Can't wait. Just printed my tickets and Watching No Distance Left to Run.

Would love to meet the lads but I guess it's hard and to be honest I'm a bit to old to be hanging around like a bad smell in the hope of meeting them. Well maybe too lazy anyway.

Anyways, hope you all have a good time :)

Aww what a lovely set.
First song go out was loud and banging and it was pretty cool but i was also pretty tired (winter. . work.. winter. workers next door waking me up early every day for the past couple months. etc etc.) so was feeling bit underwhelmed. Same went for next song, there's no othr way. Hard to gel with. Then the set turned nice and mid tempo and gooey from here in and it seemed like the band and audience got in sync a whole lot better (maybe everyone was feeling bit exhausted and needed waking up??). Anyhow, by end it seems like the crowd was won all over. Lovely, as i said earlier. Was nice how intimate the big venue rod laver arena loud and flashy lights show ended up feeling.
:) peace
