This was obvious from the outset. I don't think its licensing problems (maybe quality problems? or probably can't-be-arsed-to-remaster-a-bunch-of-live-recordings-when-we-have-a-less-time-consuming-way-of-presenting-the-tracks problem or we-don't-have-their-labels-permission problem) but compilations such as discs 1 and 2 of Britpop at the BBC, The Very Best of The Tube, most (all?) of the Old Grey Whistle Test ones, amongst others, are all terrible in this respect. It's a shame.dougharrison wrote:...sadly it's indicative of where the "entertainment" industry is at, as is the TFI compilation album (being that the songs are all studio version rather than live).

Yes, you're right that it was always very likely, just a shame really, that rather than do something interesting they opt for something safe, see the number of sequels in film and video games for other examples. Sadly I think it boils down to good ol' supply and demand. They will probably shift more units by not having recordings that may sound a bit wonky. That it's also clearly far easier and cheaper for the reasons you state is an added bonus. Can't say as I'm familiar with the other compilations you've mentioned, but as it sounds like its the same issue, naturally I agree.AdvertBreak wrote: This was obvious from the outset. doug & AB - it would be more interesting to hear the actual performances as on TFI.
But the passive audience will hear the off-key bits - "hey, that doesn't sound right!"
Even though they watched the original performance and it seemed perfectly adequate
As you say doug, the compilers will not go through difficult licensing procedures for 'wonky' recordings.

I guess it's highly unlike Evans will be able to host any more TFI Friday now he is the new Top Gear host, and still is committed to the Radio 2 breakfast show.
They should now let it rest in peace, much rather that than Nick bloody Grimshaw take over.

I hope it doesn't come back. I think this reunion style show was good as it is. It's just overkill if they do because it won't be the same show at all

Yeah, I don't want it back. Especially if the musical guests will all be modern performers.

I try and ignore twunts like scott mills (know pop fan), because at the end of the day blur have come back with a critically acclamined number one album, and are fucking slaying it with their live shows. I'm glad mills and others are snobbish about them, because they are in the minority and I wouldn't want them as fans.
NOT for the likes of you.

Other presenters do not have the charisma or natural enthusiasm of Chris Evans.
A TFI revival would not work without him. Indeed, a TFI revival would not be a good idea at all.
