Predict first week Uk sales for the Magic Whip
I'll have to check these but I think All Day Robots sold around 20,000 and Think Tank about 40,000 in week 1. Great Escape will have sold close to 200,000.
But how will TMW fare? Tons of things to take into account. The massive gap since the last album, the generally very good reviews, pretty good but not spectacular airplay for Lonesome Street, lots of other promotion (TV, radio, music mags etc).

To get the (proverbial) ball rolling, I reckon it'll sell around 80,000.

Easy #1, but no, not TGE's 200,000
(where it outsold the rest of the first week combined)
Of course, it should do because its that good, but oh well, at least it will peak at the top. 60,000 my guess.

I have no idea on numbers. I don't really know what albums sell these days (really commercial stuff). My gut tells me No. 1 album in the UK though, and then knocked off in week two by bloody Mumford and Sons.
Re: Predict first week Uk sales for the Magic Whip
Number one albums have sold between around 20,000 and 100,000 this year. Think Noel Gallagher sold around 90,000 but the oasis fan base was always bigger than blur's, and Gallagher's single had more airplay, so I reckon around 80,000 is more likely.101reykjavik wrote:I have no idea on numbers. They've absolutely rinsed the Magic Whip on 6 music

If I remember rightly, MLIR sold around 40,000 at the time - which was deemed an absolutely gigantic failure.
I think TMW will sell around the same - but in these times of course 40,000 wouldn't be a bad return.

NGHFB's first album singles were all over the radio, but I genuinely can't tell you what any tracks off his new album sound like. Haven't heard anything on the radio from him.Neal Zeal wrote:Number one albums have sold between around 20,000 and 100,000 this year. Lonesome Street, however, seems to be on 6 Music at least almost every single time I turn it on at the moment.
Re: Predict first week Uk sales for the Magic Whip
The entire of the Magic Whip is on 6 music a list right now, you can't not hear a track from it if you listen to it
Lonesome street is on radio 2 b list

13 did about 120k in its first week and that was in the 90s and of the back of Tender which was huge. Therefore even 80k is optimistic. I'd say 50k.
Re: Predict first week Uk sales for the Magic Whip
The Magic Whip is currently at #7 on the iTunes album chart from pre-orders alone.

It annoys me that all of the top 3 are compilations. People don't care for albums anymore...

Re: Predict first week Uk sales for the Magic Whip
id say 70k physical & digital combined is a reasonable expectation based on preorders (something that wasnt around when 13 came out), but i expect a number 1 for the first week and then a rapid slide down the chart, out of the top 40 within a month
