wuw wrote:These are Pyongyang's lyrics according to the CD booklet:

Pyongyang
I look down from my window
On to the island where I'm held
They listen while your sleeping [sic]
And darkness is itself
Tomorrow I am leaving*
The trees are amplified
The never ending broadcast to which I do not aspire

Kid the mausoleum has fallen
And the perfect avenues will seem empty without you
The pink light that bathed the great leaders is fading
By the time your sun is rising there
Out here it's turning blue
The silver rockets coming
The cherry trees of Pyongyang
I'm leaving

I feel like I am floating
Processed in auto tune
The never ending roll on
To the palace of the doomed
The temperature keeps falling
Soon there will be no light
Just a red glow and a glass coffin
Watched by someone though the night

*Damon definitely sings "tomorrow I'm disappearing"

But interestingly, he sings 'leaving' on the Mode recording.

I think the chorus features some of the best lyrics Damon's ever written.

Kid the mausoleum has fallen
And the perfect avenues will seem empty without you
The pink light that bathed the great leaders is fading
By the time your sun is rising there
Out here it's turning blue
The silver rockets coming
The cherry trees of Pyongyang
I'm leaving

Wonderful. Vivid, evocative and moving.

Not just the chorus, but all of it. And I really didn't expect it to be 'kid' at the start. Thought it was 'here'.

Me too. I've been singing 'here' along to it all that time.

What we didn't know until the Made in Hong Kong vid of course is that it was written from the perspective of a postcard home to his daughter. So it makes more sense in that respect.

Ice Cream Man.....I don't have the CD yet

Here comes the ice cream man
Parked at the end of the road
With a swish of his magic whip
All the people in the party froze
Screwball, chocolate chip, umbrella in his white glove hand
Shade from the sun was his intention

Here comes the ice cream man
Bouncing up the hill
With a whip of pumpkin lick
Happy that the cones he fills, for
All the Lantern men marching down till dawn
Morning come, he fall over

Something new
Something new
Something new

Here comes the ice cream man
Parked at the end of the road
With a swish of his magic whip
All the people in the party froze
I was only 21 when I watched it on tv
I was risen in my heart and then…. (?)

Something new
Oh, ohoh, oh
Something new

Something new
Oh, ohoh, oh
Something new
Something you knew nothing about

Something new
Oh, ohoh, oh
Something new

Here comes the ice cream man
Proud with his magic whip
Something new
Always so ? (sounds like aponine?) so you better come and get it quick
Something new
Oh ohoh, oh
Something new

I think is "Kim"(kim young un)
I absolutely love the lyrics of pyongyang. the line about the cherry trees is beautiful. damon has such a great ability to describe places

The booklet's got the lyrics for some of the songs (Pyongyang, Ghost Ship, Spaceman, New World Towers, My Terracotta Heart and Mirrorball IIRC) but none of the fast ones. So we'll never find out exactly what on earth Damon is singing during the verses in Go Out.
