Top 3 song from The Magic Whip

Post by blurvert » 13 Mar 2015, 17:12

A bit of dafty fun here, but which songs do you think will be your favourite from The Magic Whip...and which will be the stinker (if there will be one). Lets compare notes in a month or two or a year...

My top 3 are:

1. Lonesome Street (their opening album track has always being a favourite)
2. Pyongyang (they speak highly of it)
3. Ice Cream Man (dunno why, maybe the ice cream theme)

x. [the stinker] Ghost Ship (their trade mark short-blast rock song that just doesn't do it anymore)
and I bet "I Broadcast" will be a half-decent instrumental
:?: :?: :?: :?: :?:

I suspect this is not the case, as a few days ago, Mike Smith tweeted at Graham something along the lines of "nice sax on GS" - which I can only assume to mean Graham plays the sax on Ghost Ship 8-)

1- Lonesome Street (I like the name and is the opener)
2- Pyongyang (I don't know why, but I believe that the bit we hear the other day is this song, I think it will be a ballad, maybe something like caramel)
3- ong ong (Is the oldest song, damon said is about 4-5 years old, if he kept the idea for so long maybe is because it was too good)

wonder what song will be the "short punk song' that has been on every blur album since Modern Life is rubbish... damn, even gorillaz albums have that tradition
i'm going with "I Broadcast" since it's in the middle and has the shortest length :)
Textin' abbreviates the brain. Aspirin takes away the pain.

1. "Go Out" (it's already my favourite song this summer)
2. "There Are Too Many of Us" (the title sounds a bit like "One Born Every Minute" , hopefully it'll sound like a 2nd part of that funny B-side)
3. "Pyongyang" (Dave's favourite song of this album; if he said that it's because the song is pretty good ;) )

The stinker:

"Ice Cream Man" (in Chile, "heladero" or "Ice Cream Seller Man" is a derogatory term for football fans of one of my rival clubs -ColoColo-, so it shouldn't be a good song at all)

1. Pyongyang (going on Dave's recommendation, I always like Damon's ballads as well.)
2. Ong Ong (Alex said it was a banger!)
3. Lonesome Street (sounds like classic Blur material)

All conjecture of course! :D

1. Pyongyang (for the same reasons everyone else has said, and because I wanna know more about Damon's experiences there!)
2. Lonesome Street
3. My Terracotta Heart

God I can't believe we'll be hearing these songs in a week!! :D

I almost don't want to. I feel I'm cheating on the whole album buying experience...even though I know I will be putting the cat out for the night, turning the phone off and telling the missus "I'm busy"

Haha yeah I'd say nobody here could resist it! I don't mind this, when Damon played his first gig with The Heavy Seas at Radio 6 Music Festival it just made me even more excited for Everyday Robots, so I expect the same thing to happen with Blur!

I think it was on Zane Lowe where Damon and Graham mentioned that when they heard Thought I was A Spaceman, it was a moment when Damon held Graham's hands or it might have been the other way around can't remember the exact quote, but I can bet that one is going my favourite song !

Yeah, Damon said he almost wanted to cry when he heard I Thought I Was A Spaceman.
