It Could Be You is brilliant!
Aaaaah I've been searching for that second chord for years! How do you play it? :) I can roughly see the shape, tho I'm in doubt as for the D string...

It's a great song indeed! It's never been a HUGE favorite but it was one of the most fun songs to record once I learned it. That second chord is really cool, it carries the vibe of the whole song I think. It's a weird jazzy Bbmaj11 chord played like this:

---
---
-8-
-7-
-5-
-6-

Hope this helps! :)

Thanks!
Very interesting, tho, I thought this type of chord shapes did not appear in Graham's playing before much later (Coffee & TV, etc.).

That's true, it's definitely a fav of Graham's. He uses the same shape (or similar) in songs like "B.L.U.R.E.M.I" (I've also done this one and am planning to release next week) and "Lake" just to name a few more. But "It Could Be You" must be one of the first times he experimented with it.

On a different topic, I just posted a bit of "Polished Stone" here if anyone's interested in this weirdly cool b-side :)

Thanks - I was gonna ask for Polished Stone!

How about Swallows In The Heatwave? Another very guitary blur number :)

Hey Rich thanks a lot for your suggestion! A LOT of people have been asking for this song, I'm not sure why. But by far it's the most requested song since I've started the project. I'll try my best to uplod a cover of "Swallows in the Heatwave" this week. :D

Swallows just rocks! I'm excited to see your cover of it, it'll pair nicely with Polished Stone! Love the snippet. Graham's sounds can be so wonderfully strange.

It certainly does! I've been away from home lately so it's slowed me down but I'll post Swallows pretty soon, it's been highly requested. It's also sounding great! :D

Fancy a challenge? Would love to hear you have a go at Essex Dogs :)
It seems like the real challenge is dodging the copyright claims! I've been working on Essex Dogs but Youtube blocks it straight away in North America, which is why I posted a 3-minute snippet on Instagram instead. Let's see if I can get away with it soon, I might need to mix it differently. I had a similar issue with Starshaped until I decided to use Damon vocals only. After that, I had no problems with Youtube. Sorry Alex and Dave.

Well done!
I never knew the guitar pitch effect on Essex Dogs was actually achieved with the DD! I always assumed that was a prod effect (I vaguely remember Stephen Street saying that, a feature on the "radar" device he used for the recording of the S/T album). Do you mind sharing your pedal settings for that? :)

Currently I'm recording a few b-sides. So far I've already done "Tame", "Inertia", "Ultranol", "Swallows in the Heatwave", "Won't Do It" and some others. I'll be posting everything soon, it just might take a while.

Yeah Graham uses de DD3 and it's very easy to see him achieving the results in live performances of the song, most notably the Glasto 98 and East Anglian 09. However, I'll probably record "Essex Dogs" from scratch because I've just recently realized that Graham uses the "hold" function, with his foot pressing the pedal and never letting it go. As for me, what I did was leave "level" and "feedback" almost 100% and played with the "time" knob. But you dont wanna use 100% of level and feedback because the DD3 will get off the rails and the feedback will make the guitar signal louder and louder. But yeah I'm 100% sure he uses the "hold" function, it's way more evident on the second part of the song, after the "you'll catch the flu" line.

Hi! So, I normally try to get a few videos ready and post them at once so I don't spam too much (which I still do as I'm always recording... so my apologies) but I was so excited with this one that I couldn't wait to share. I put a lot of effort in it to try to copy Graham's playing on the album (and some 5% of my personal taste), with all the sweet little riffs he always comes up with. Also, what an INCREDIBLE guitar solo, I wish I'd written that.
