Yup, Graham did it.
And I agree, can't really see Y'all Doomed replacing anything on the album. Perhaps I could see it as a hidden track, similar to Me (White Noise)...

Re: Blur - The Magic Whip
I might get slammed for this, but the only track I've always been mixed on is "There Are Too Many of Us"..... To me, it's the only song that isn't more than a 7/10.... I always felt it sounded too monotonous to me.
I listened to "Lonesome Street" the other day for the first time in awhile and I still love it more than anything else beyond belief! Such an incredible song that embodied that entire summer of 2015 and my London trip perfectly!

'There are too many of us' for me is one of my least favourite songs on the album, still a good song, but just doesn't flow as naturally as many of the other songs. Lonesome Street to me is like a song made up of so many elements of what I love about Blur, it doesn't take itself too seriously but still has so many depths to it. It is one song alongside 'Thought I was a Spaceman' that I hope stay in future setlists, if we were to have another album and tour.KingLouieLouie76 wrote:I might get slammed for this, but the only track I've always been mixed on is "There Are Too Many of Us"..... Personally i love TATMoU, for me it is the most HK sounding song on there, not just the obvious lyrical themes, but relentless rhythm section etc, really sums the city up.
Re: Blur - The Magic Whip
yeah great song
I like the way it 'builds on' the feel of the Police's Spirits in the Material World

I tend to agree that "TATMoU" might contain Damon's best lyrics on the album, but I guess I'm just based on the musical arrangement. But true, rich nailed it w/his "Spirits in the Material World" comparison and even another track from the Police's "Ghost in the Machine", "Invisible Sun" how the tension builds upon itself throughout the song. It's just to me inferior compared to the other songs on the album, but 7/10 obviously is still above average!
"Lonesome Street" is such a feel-good song containing several fascinating elements. I love the Syd Barrett and even the "Sgt. Pepper" type influence. Graham's part elevates the song to a higher distant galaxy and it continues to soar through the ceiling at that point and beyond. Just a supreme song... still love how it was the album's first track..Captured the tone of the album ideally!

Ong ong isn't my favourite on the album but once again I don't think it has a single bad track or one I ever skip. It isn't the most experimental album from Blur but possibly the most consistent in quality. Any of these tracks in my opinion would better the release back in 2012 of UTW or the Puritan, good tracks but there was something missing, maybe the production, although I still rate UTW. I still like what Damon said on TMW doc about Blur feeling like a proper band again, those words I cling to hoping for more, but won't hold my breath.

Re: Blur - The Magic Whip
Hey everyone haven't posted in awhile but thought this part of the forum would be perfect. I do a radio show at the University campus in New Brunswick Canada on Local 107.3 FM. Anyways since the inception of my show I play one track off "The Magic Whip" every 5 shows. Next week will I'll be episode 45 (I don't play album in order) and three songs are left "Lonesome Street" (this week), "Pyongyang"(EP 50), and "I Though I Was A Spaceman" (EP 55 - my favorite song on the album and grand finally to this whole Playing The Magic Whip). Anyways I have every episode available on Mixcloud which I will post on here. Also after this whole " The Magic Whip" thing is done. I'd still love to play other Blur tracks on my show. I try not to over play them because of they are my favorite band but love you guys to suggest tracks for future shows. Anyways I'll send a few links. Plus my theme tune is Fools Day what's not to love. Anyways thanks for reading - Jordan

If no-one minds, I'm going to turn this thread into a normal thread because of the amount of Gorillaz things happening at the moment.
