The Sun has been the Blur news outlet of repute the past 6 years, who woulda thunk that?

I feel like I must have been living under a rock. Jus received an email notification for blur tickets going on sale and i'm thinking ' lets hope theres an album in it this time as well'
Checking back here to see what its about makes me feel a bit out of touch

The record's quite deep. On the face of it the music is quite fluffy, but there's a depth and darkness to it.

Is it going to be like The Great Escape then? I wouldn't mind at all :P
Me neither...love that album.
Glad to know! I think the value of TGE is often diminished, but I am quite fond of it and that concept reminded me of it automatically :P

Sara, we won't know if it's "fluffy" or not until we get to touch it

Listening to Go Out again, sounds like a mix of 1997 Blur and 1999 Blur to me. Didn't notice that before.

I agree, if I was to put it on a previous album it would be on either Blur or 13. It's got the sound of them albums but lyrically does feel like a PL/TGE track. I think that's why I enjoy it so much.

I keep thinking that Damon's singing voice on Go Out is quite unique -- his blur voice, so to say, which would not fit any of his other projects. That's probably why it feels like a TGE track to me as well. :)

Interesting to read the NME article to get a bit more of the ideas the album. I'm hoping there is at least one single with a video featuring the band together, the "Go Out" video isn't the most rewatchable... Having said that, I hope the woman from the video is at Hyde Park, some Blur themed ice-cream might go down quite well come the summer! Perhaps "Caramel" flavoured in a "Morricone?" I'll stop now... ;)

It's weird though because it continues that trend of lazy, almost slurred delivery of his vocals that he began around 2000 with Blur, whereas in Gorillaz and Everyday Robots, his singing is much clearer and more powerful. I hope the rest of the Magic Whip is more like the latter than the former.

might be the reason for the lack of radio airplay. could be as simple as the vocals not being understood :P i love them though as they are although i agree i hope the rest of the album they are clear.

and by the way. I like the Go Out video. I'd happily see it on a new Blur dvd.
BUT they have to appear in a video for this album. Damon did in Mr. Tembo and Graham did in his latest solo tracks.

I like the official video for Fool's Day better than the one for Go Out, honestly...

There was a video for Fools Day? I can't even remember it, it's been 5 years to be fair!

^yes indeed. It is literally a close up of the needle over the record as it plays for the entire song. Fantastic video (when compared to the one for "Go Out").
