Julian Cope was in post-punk Liverpool band The Teardrop Explodes - as was Dave Balfe, Blur's second manager...
I'm sure others here can add much more detail

. And there's
Coping too...

I thought Dave Balfe was the manager of Food Records. Blur's second manager was and has always been Chris Morrison.

A couple from TMW:
In Lonesome Street, for some reason I thought Damon sang "
You will be over soon" instead of "June"
In Pyongyang, "And the perfect avenues will seem empty without you", thought it was "And the perfect avenues
were cemented without you"

We know how disturbing North Korea is, but cementing avenues with people

No, as in 'you not being there when it happened'.

Song 2.
For 20 years I've heard "I got my head checked by H M Bocek."
Finally, after watching the NYC vid I decided to Google H M Bocek to find out who it was.
Google throws back only this:
I was convinced that the opening lines of 'Song Two', 'I got my head checked/ by a jumbo jet', were actually 'I got my head checked/ By Ichum Bocek', who I assumed was some philosopher or psychologist that I'd never heard of and that Albarn was showing off.
--- End quote ---
Wow, exactly the same except I though it was 'H.M. Bocek' he was name-dropping...
- So that's three of us.

It's just what I heard.
Like the mention of Balzac in Country House I just assumed it was the name of someone I'd know something about if I was better educated.
TBH listening to it again I now know it's jumbo jet, but I can still hear
H M Bocek too.

I used to hear "disarm me" at the end of Beetlebum, took me a while before I found out I was wrong
