Blur's Alex James spent New Year's Eve with David Cameron

Prime Minister spotted 'dad dancing' at bassist's house party

David Cameron celebrated New Years Eve by "dad dancing" at a party hosted by Blur's Alex James, according to reports.

The Sun says that the Prime Minister and his wife, Samantha, were both invited to the bash at James' country home, with fellow guests claiming that James earnestly tried to persuade Cameron that he should sing karaoke.

"David and Samantha looked to be having a fun time," said one onlooker. "Although his security was with him to make sure none of the 200 guests got any pictures, it was definitely an off-duty night for the PM. He seemed to be sipping on red wine throughout the night, although [he] wasn't drunk – which makes his dad dancing even less excusable."

The source added: "Alex kept trying to get him to sing karaoke  and looked like he was almost persuaded. But that was probably the point he realised it was time to go home. Samantha was a great laugh and dancing around. It looked like she was playing a leg as a guitar as one point."

James was famously photographed with Cameron and Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson at his cheese festival, Harvest, in 2011. Speaking about their relationship at the time, he said: "Politics is not my thing, but I was absolutely delighted when the Camerons came. It was a great party and the PM had a great time."

Not going to lie, that's devastating. Always agreed more with Damon's political views than Alex

I feel the same way. I'm not really familiar with Graham's views, but Damon's political views are much more similar to mine than Dave or Alex's. Course I probably still would've voted for Dave just because he's the fantastic drummer of my fav band... :P

I've always voted for the Dutch equivalent of the labour party, but as far as I'm concerned Alex can invite whoever he wants to his parties. Just because someone's political views don't match yours (or are even in direct opposition to yours) doesn't mean someone is a bad person and no fun to be around.

true - blur as a band has always been a broad church, politically speaking...

[and on a personal note, I'm a labour supporter employed by a leading tory - so, you know - life is complicated!]

I've known for years that Alex James is a home county, waistcoat wearing toff.

Doesn't mean I respect him any less.

Alex isn't a toff. He's a city boy trying to be something he isn't. It's all for show.

Maybe Alex just gets on well with them... No need for all the eye rolling, surely.

I know, for a blur forum, there are a hell of a lot of snide comments about the band's members.

some things said in this thread are maybe a bit too much, but eye rolling never harmed any one.
I wonder what the rest of Blur were doing that night, not partying with David Cameron that's for sure. Probably with people a lot cooler

So what if he partied with the PM? You'd be a very sad person indeed if you only had friends who shared the same views on politics as you. And just because someone has different views to you doesn't make them a bad person. Grow up.
