They honestly need to break out Fools Day. That’d be the ace in the hole. The checkmate. The fankiller!

As forums these days are soft as forgotten Lurpak, I have to quantify this with the statement of Narcissist being their best song since Westway. it's a beautiful, mature, sensible track and carries that melancholy only Damon can do.

...but holy fucking shit is this St Charles Sqaure or whatever a fucking turd. I heard it once and saw the rave reviews and thought it could've been an issue with the phone quality bootleg but nah, it's just a shit fuckin song. genuinely has to be one of the worst things ever committed to tape from the band. fucking hell. horrible lyrics, senseless, no structure... most songs are based around a concept or chord progression, a chorus or a tone, and this thing seems just like making a song for the sake of it. horrible.

Also feels way more lively and real as a four (/five) piece. agree with that sentiment massively. but Damon looks like he's pretending to have the mannerisms of the guy who really had the mannerisms of being excited to be back in the band for every other reunion.

PPS why the hell are they so obsessed with the early material as a one-two to start the set? it's not that effective tbh.

Country House with the geetars is mega man, keep this kickin. kinda hope and think they'll keep it this simple at Wembley.

Also kinda good how shit it sounds, Damon singing and jumping like when you've had a few beers and you're just about to head out for the night. righton.

Yeah what on earth…

You say it doesn’t have a structure but it’s very clearly… verse choruse verse chorus bridge outro? Are you listening to a fake leak? Fantano, is that you?

The lyrics are great as well, and quite concise and to the point. I reckon our overtly critical pal over here might have been hitting the Strongbow Darkfruits a bit too much lately

Fantano is so difficult to listen to when it comes to anything Damon-related except Song Machine and Plastic Beach. The Narcissist sounds nothing like Cracker Island (it’s better than every single track from the record easily, to begin with.) Hadn’t seen this, thanks for sharing Jay. Can’t wait to roll my eyes at his 6/10 review of Darren in July!

AY-FUCKIN-MEN, awful song! too many sycophants raving about any old tat. held back on any opinion because we hadn't had a studio version, but if the primavera recording (maybe not because they sounded awful all night) is anything to go by its worrying that this is the one other track they're playing from the new album
The Narcissist is up there with pyongyang and westway as the best songs they've recorded post-reunion. this tho may be the worst, and with magic whip that bar is pretty low

Yeah I've held back on saying anything negative hoping it'll be a grower and really glad so many people seem to love it (on this forum at least) but St Charles Sq does absolutely nothing for me... Tuneless, directionless and pointless.

It's got the worst like hair metal, chuggy riff. reminds me of when I was into Weezer and listened to the first demos Rivers did when he was a kid pretending he was in Kiss. the melody is b-side tier, I think the lyrics are corny and paint a lame image (which is rare for Damon – generally he just goes the oblique route and you just see lyrics as an aide to a good chorus).

And maybe it does have a structure, but the independent parts are all so thin and so similar that the whole thing, together, has no dynamism. Damon is one of the strongest songwriters of his era. where's that? it's seemingly an issue lots of people retroactively have on The Magic Whip, so why's this any different?'

Don't...don't get me started on those dumb 'whoo-aaaaarghs' as some kind of hook.

Thing's a Crazy Beat that reckons it's total punkTM, dude.

Maybe that's just it. As a metal head my self I love the more raw punk and noisy side of blur. I love Magazine and they are seeming to do a good Magazine/Robert Fripp impression. I actually consider Westway one of more boring blur songs ever and was so bored when that was their "comeback single" back in 2012. It's just a let it be cover, there is a reason they haven't played it since. Blur live were never about sipping tea around the piano making sure every note is right. Graham always wanted to make a speed metal album at one point. I think his guitar tone on St Charles is fucking amazing, he definitely knows his pedals. Oh well... To each his own...
Just to call it "awful" is a headscratcher. This is the most blur sounding song since the 13 days. I guess some of yous grown old now and are Grandmas

Lots of ‘tell me you’ve never heard Scary Monsters without telling me you’ve never heard Scary Monsters’ opinions going on here.
