Harry Styles

Post by Caitlin » 15 May 2017, 10:23

Yeah, that's right - a Harry Styles thread. Deal with it.

Has anyone else listened to his album yet? I was never a One Direction fan, but jesussssss his solo album is amazing.

Meet Me In The Hallway is probably one of the best openers I've heard this year so far.

Also before anyone comes in here just to go 'ewww harry styles' can you actually listen to the album? Please?

ewwww harry.. just kidding

I don't think that I have heard a lot of 1D songs over the years, so I don't really know what they sound like - which kind of saves me from prejudice. I was intrigued by the first single from Styles' album (Sign of the Times that is), so I will give the album a proper listen and follow up :)

My sister has the white vinyl of it, she played me a bit of it, it was alright. Sign of the Times was okay but besides that and whatever it was she played me I haven't heard the rest of it

You have a good point Caitlin because artists can go beyond their 'teen' base, and come up with more credible music.

Though it can be difficult - several tried in the 60s-70s (e.g. David Cassidy) but didn't really get the success.

Obvious examples since then are are Madonna and Robbie Williams. And in the same era to some extent, Kylie Minogue.

I like it at least. Although I could've been quite happy with Meet Me In The Hallway put on the disc 8 times instead.

You can still hear aspects of the real pop sound there, but he's lent toward a beautiful kind of english folky sound?

Only things I don't really like are Woman and Carolina, but only because it's not really to my tastes.

Well done for the open-mindedness, Caitlin!
It was people round these parts that convinced me to buy 1989 by T Swift which has become one of my favourite albums of the last 5 years. I knew hardly anything about 1 Direction but I really like Sign of the Times, especially the falsetto part. The album reviews have all been around 3 or 4 stars (out of 5). Think I'll need to hear another couple of good songs though before I buy it.

I rather liked "Meet Me In The Hallway" Is the majority of the album like that? I like good pop songs regardless of who the artist is. I don't like 1 Direction or their songs so I honestly thought I wouldn't like anything by Harry, but I did like that one song.

We await Damon inviting Harry Styles to collaborate on a future project :)

His appearance on Carpool Karaoke (James Corden) was quite good. You can really hear the beautiful tone to his voice here.

The album has had a good review in the Daily Telegraph, by Neil McCormick.
