Re: Albums for 2017
My favourite records most years are from newer artists, instead of old favourites. The thrill of something new. Last year I fell in love with Wolf Alice and Chvrches (over Blur or Dylan), this year I'm happy to have come across Shura, Mitski, Melanie de Biasio... (though the old favourites have been particularly magnificent... Suede, Bowie, Cave, Marissa Nadler who came out of nowhere 2-3 years ago).
However, as they come out of nowhere, I have no idea which new artists will blow me away in 2017. So usually it's the old friends I'm looking forward to.

Re: Albums for 2017
In our youth, the artist was around the same age as us. We heard the songs on the radio, read the music weeklies, saw the band on TV, bought the album, wore the clothes and the hairstyle to the gig.
It all means something and is part of our life story. When said artist continues to create new work, they retain the affinity of the fans.
It takes us back to carefree days of the past. And as fans we remain amongst people of our own age.

49 is cool. Beck is pretty lame though.Miki wrote:I'm 49, for the record. Guess not cool enough for some people?
I'm excited for the GBV double-album due to drop in spring. Also, the Gorillaz album.

Re: Albums for 2017
"Wow" is a great track. 'Loser' for the 21st century. I recommend downloading the HD track to fully appreciate the layers, details and weirdness... the Youtube audio quality is pretty rubbish.
"Dreams" is a catchy garage-rock/pop song with the weird Beck's twist. It grew into something really energetic during the live shows. I liked it even more after I saw him playing it live.
"Up All Night" is the weakest track out of the three. The lyrics are cliche, and though I quite like the verses melody, I'm not convinced by the chorus. It was meant as a hook, but makes the song very generic. However at this stage the song only appeared as part of the FIFA17 soundtrack, so it may just have been a bit of a throwaway track.

Almost forgot that Arcade Fire are rumored to drop LP5 next year. This will be by far the most waited album, I have no idea where they might go after Reflektor
RIP Mr. Okay (April 2015 - March 2016)

Seems confirmed that Beck's new album has now been set for release next year
At least according to KCRW

New Depeche Mode. Although their last two were kinda meh for me. Seems like they're just going through the motions.

I'm the opposite. Nothing new really impresses me. It's all bland and/or over processed. And a lot of these voices nowadays irritate me. I'm not knockin talent, it just ain't for me.mr_spenalzo wrote:My favourite records most years are from newer artists, instead of old favourites. The thrill of something new.

Re: Albums for 2017
It better be one of their better efforts in years since they're one of the 2017 R-N-R HOF class nominations and I believe they might have an outside chance of induction. Yes, I haven't been into their recent material as well. Unfortunately their best days are behind them, however, I still prefer them over most if all of today's newer artists!dparrott wrote:New Depeche Mode. Although their last two were kinda meh for me. Hmm yes I'd like for Morrissey to self-release. He needs to get over World Peace. I LOVED seeing him live, but he needs to get out a new album. And speaking of self release, where's the reissue he was gonna release of World Peace with Joan of Arc on the cover?
Speaking of touring live but needing a new album... PLEASE Stone Roses!! Please please please! If they did, it would make me consider getting rid of all my money to go see them at Wembley
Also adding Vampire Weekend and Gorillaz of course, two of my favorite bands of all time.

Yes, it's odd about the Joan of Arc Morrissey album situation. He probably realised the whole thing was a bit pointless.aldamasta wrote:Hmm yes I'd like for Morrissey to self-release. I'm a big Vampire Weekend fan, too. Must now be 3 years since the last album. I think they've lost one of their songwriters (if not their main one) so that's obviously a bit worrying. Liked the last album, although not in same league as first two, and Diane Young was awful!

Re: Albums for 2017
There's a new Foxygen album out in January, and based on the first two singles we've gotten from it, this is going to be something special.
