The others were more successful IIRC, with even the Styx album reaching the top ten.
Funny thing....the Go-Gos toured the UK prior to releasing "Beauty and the Beat" and that is how Jane their rhythm guitarist met and had that tryst w/Terry Hall which lead to "Our Lips Are Sealed".....

The missing album was Tuxedomoon - Desire. In fact I'd probably place it very high. Fantastic album.

IIRC there was some interest in The Go-Go's in the UK. Although it was low-key, perhaps not going beyond the music press or inclusion on Jonathan Kings USA-segment of 'Top of the Pops'.

They had a minor UK hit with 'Our Lips Are Sealed', prior to the Fun Boy Three version, which made the top ten.

It was much different when Jane Wiedlin and Belinda Carlisle had solo careers. They had huge UK success, particularly Belinda who had a run of hits over several years. Though I wasn't particularly keen on them because I thought they had the neutered sound of the late 80s.

I contend this would have been #1 (even in the UK) if released as a single....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=na1807jIHts" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Sounds very fresh as it did in 1981!

Edit: In fact... here's them performing "Automatic" on the Tube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIrlshp5e6I1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; And "Our Lips Are Sealed": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YF-Kc2hnMmg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and "Vacation" the title-track from their 2nd album: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=slsvMlIWOFc" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and another track from "Vacation" which was released in 1982: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8NnE3nm0hU4" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and then also from their 2nd album: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZ7Ls_dkac8" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and lastly https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sj3m1VPAG9o" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; from their 2nd album, "Vacation"....

To me Jane was always the hottest!

Remember back in 2012 when the old forum seemed obsessed with Pink Floyd? (really when me, Jay and even FLM were heavily into them and pretty much filled threads with them.)

I was so stunned during their Live 8 performance and I really hoped that would have caused Roger to drop all his animosity towards the rest and return for a reunion tour and album. Oh well.... but I've always been a huge fan (including w/Syd)...... My fave album being "Wish You Were Here".......

Past and/or current Blues Rock? Which bands in particular?

Another random topic....1997 was such a wonderful year's worth of music! It was Post-Grunge, but several other genres really began emerging onto the scene, some were just short-lived though.... 1998 the music industry was beginning to go into some flux phase and hasn't to me fully recovered since.

I think I'm starting to like Guided By Voices a lot. Never thought this day would come.

^Absolutely agree. I was never interested enough in their music, but the singles from Summer 08 are incredible (I already pointed that out in the "What Song Are You Listening Thread"). "Hang Me Out To Dry" is great, the synths remind a little bit of Twin Peaks before Robyn starts singing turning the song into some disco groove. Overall, the record has all the potential, and I'm really looking forward to listening to it.

I saw and fell in love w/Metromony last summer when I saw them open for Blur at BST. They have such a unique blend of sound...I am really excited for this new album!

Good point. Indie music post-Britpop was largely killed-off by the industry, lots of artists had their contracts terminated overnight.
