Roxy Music thread

Post by Consigliere_11 » 09 Mar 2016, 22:28

These guys are incredibly classy, so they deserve a thread on their own. Bryan Ferry stuff would fell at home here too.

I am listening to Stranded the whole day today - incredible record, I'm a big fan of their first bold records - Brain Eno (in the first two), sexy women on covers, tuxedos.. That was something  And the music showed that as well - top notch.

Yes, the Roxy Music/Bryan Ferry axis was the closest rival to David Bowie in their chart hit years (early 70s - mid 80s). As with Bowie, RM/BF were very consistent in this period.

^I agree. They were taking cues from each other and of course share the huge influence of Brian Eno - as a performer and as a producer. But I think that RM and Bryan Ferry were looking better in musical plan in the mid80s - then again, it was not a good time quality-wise for Bowie, and Bryan Ferry was more suited to the pop-oriented nature of music in that time, so that's why he might have looked better..

They both faded from the top ten in the later 80s, as did several artists of that stature (e.g. Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder).

They carried on with their own projects, which meant less to the younger audiences.
