Yep, those are the rumours.
Admittedly, a new studio album is best-case scenario. An EP/single might be more realistic.
Worst case is some kind of live release.
I'm not a massive fan (only got first album) but it would be pretty flipping exciting if new songs were about to be released!

Intriguing. PJ Harvey, Suede and The Prodigy have been on good form, so the Roses are in good company if they return.

But watch out, I hear Kula Shaker have something in the wind.... :)

It looks like it might have been some joke that got out of hand. The original tweet that sparked it all has since been deleted. We shall see, but I'm doubtful anything is happening today.

Second Coming...a hit? Uhh...no. I like it, but I remember it wasn't well received. It was like TGE->Blur: "what the hell is this?"

The Great Escape is a top 4 Blur album.

Agreed. The Great Escape is miles better than Blur :P

Second Coming was mildly received. On its own terms it would have done a lot better. It was just a disappointment after a five year wait left by a debut LP as great as theirs.

This might have been discussed before and Stone Roses thread isn't a right place for that, but S/T is so far more advanced - dare I say it's blur's Revolver or Sgt. Pepper - peak of the innovation of themselves. TGE is good, but it doesn't sound so "out of time" as the S/T.

...Then again, it is not the right thread to discuss such a topic :)

I don't remember that being discussed, but I compeltely disagree. Blur was a change in direction, but in no way is it a peak of innovation. Okay, Essex Dogs and Death of a Party are quirky and off-kilter, but surely the lo-fi excursions are by definition the opposite of the textural studio constructions of Revolver and Sgt Pepper that you refer to. Essex Dogs and DOAP aren't as innovative in their field as any Beatles record from those two albums were in theirs. I don't see how its more advanced in any way than TGE. It was a shift in direction, and a great one, but not a "more advanced" one.

But yeah, Stone Roses or something.

"Blur" isn't that different from the 3 albums before it. Lyrically, maybe (though once you take away the character songs the gap narrows). Production, definitely. The chosen style, yep. But the songwriting is pretty similar. "13" is where they changed.

But yes, I agree... Stone Roses, yay!

Oh, and I agree with AB, The Great Escape > Blur.

I always viewed DOAP as good but a wanna be Portishead song...

Really? For me it is a trademark Blur/Damon song in the tradition of He Thought of Cars.
