PE seems like a weird match to me.

Only someone with a superficial knowledge of The Stone Roses would think that PE is a strange match. John Squire is a big fan of PE - indeed Fools Gold came from his attempt to create a sample-based track after he listened to "It Takes a Nation of Millions" - and Ian Brown is well known for his love of hip-hop.

I think he meant it was because Public Enemy are internationally a much better known and more acclaimed band. Either way, I'm chuffed to be seeing them both. :D

I'd really like to run up to NYC and catch them at MSG. However, I'm nearly positive I couldn't afford it, and this is NOWHERE near as important to me as going to see blur in NYC :D

Still, it is their only US date... :( :?:

OK, well it might be common to like both bands in the UK, but not here. Dudes don't go through NY streets bumpin Waterfall!

That is a very narrowminded way of listening to music. One of the great things that came out of the 80s was genre crossovers. The whole premises of hip-hop is crossover. Madchester bands like the Roses and, even more so, The Happy Mondays fused dance and guitar music. Meanwhile De La Soul brought together hip-hop and psychedelia - two of the big records of summer 1989 were The Stone Roses and 3 Feet High and Rising - and they were owned by the same people. There was a lot more openness in the way music was consumed and absorbed back then. Now everything is neatly compartmentalized. And that's why so much new music is uninspired. A lot of music, especially in indie rock, is derivative and inbred.

Didn't Public Enemy support U2 at the G mex back in the '90s? Every kid on my estate loved P.E including me. The early 90s was such a fusion of different genres.

I didn't particularly 'get' Public Enemy. But I agree that the fusion of musical genres in the early 90s was invigorating.
