Music tends to go in generational cycles, so. e.g. we are hearing late 80s-influenced power ballads now, if we tune to mainstream stations.

Here in the UK, I avoid BBC Radio 1 & 2 but 6Music has been quite a revelation for new music.
But you know what? I honestly benefited from my dislike of music during that period because that was essentially when I broadened myself more about the "Classic Rock" bands or other genres from the 60s/70s by going into the deeper cuts of their catalog opposed to just what was played on the radio.

Yes. I agree, I was doing the same in the late 80s.

I think the music business knew this too, because they began issuing their back catalogues on CD.

Quite honestly...I'm going through that same phase right now.... but what also is so hysterical, we were are all excited for bands from prior decades to release new music than newer bands.....just look at this thread as a primary example! Perhaps the trend will soon change.....

I am loving the new Warpaint album. It's geared towards the tuneful, dare I say more poppy, side of music, while still maintaining the rarefied and dreamy psych-rock sound of the previous work. They get the balance just right, I think. New Song, the main single, is the most chart friendly song, but it would be wrong to think it is representative of the album. Best tracks imo are the opener Whiteout, So Good (make me think of Depeche Mode), Don't Let Go and Dre. Also the last two tracks, that pick up where the last album left off, are worth of note. A definite 8/10 for me :)

Yea I agree, good variety, but The Stall rules all, reminds me of later DM. I got the CD but my colored vinyl is lost in the mail
