Yes, Neil McCormick gave it a cautious 3 out of 5 in The Times last Saturday. Although the singles have been much played on BBC 6Music, and a quick Google suggests that the album is destined for a good chart placing.

'The Community Of Hope' has a strange appeal with its refrain of "they're going to build a Walmart heee-e-ere...."

:| She mostly passed me by in the 90s. I remember she was in similar territory to Lush - popular with the music press, but not quite getting the chart placings. Looking it up now, I notice that she never had any top 20 hits. :o

'C'mon Billy' was getting quite a bit of airplay on Radio 1, and was tied in with Britpop being around the time of the Blur vs Oasis chart battle.

I'm amazed there isn't a Radiohead thread going at full speed right now...

They've dissappered from the web, so it will be in a good manner not to talk about anything from them right now ;)

I'm really digging Thomas Cohen's record "Bloom Forever". There are some similarities to Mac DeMarco and Damon Albarn, which is.. Rather good! Also, something like more down-to-earth The Horrors, whom I also quite like.

Now that LP9 is out the way its time to start hype about SFA's even more belated LP10.

Metronomy's new single, they're back to the electro vibes.

Oh wow....thanks for sharing! I loved them quite a bit when I saw them at Hyde Park last 6/20 opening for Blur! Very infectious song!

Radiohead currently trump everyone else in my playlist. I just can't stop playing the new album. It's in the "Albums I will never get tired of" category.

Nope... I get the same effect I always get with them: a good idea that doesn't go anywhere. I feel a melody is lacking. Great beat though.

(they bored me at Hyde Park :P )

To each their own..... :D But I honestly can see where you're coming from...it's all in the groove with them..mainly the bass.....

Who else besides Beck and Blur excited you at Hyde Park? Again, Syd Arthur on the 18th really blew me away!

He was good. Wouldn't say he "blew me away", but I enjoyed him. Same with Future Islands. Good band. With Blur... I was bored by pretty much all the support acts. I was especially disappointed by The Horrors, as I had seen them before and had been impressed, but in Hyde Park they just looked as if they could not be bothered.

Future Islands were decent... I agree w/you regarding the Horrors.... Drenge was respectable, but I thought the vocalist/guitarist would break into some wonderful guitar solo in each and every song to add them more spark, but never did. I loved Jupiter & Okwess International, they had a decent sound...

Of course no one could rival Beck and Blur (well for me Syd Arthur, they were special to me)..... I know you left before the Strokes and they were okay, but obviously couldnt touch Beck and his backing band... not even close!

I stayed for the first 30-40 minutes, but yes, Beck was a tough act to follow. He rightly had raving reviews after the show, better than most The Strokes received.

I see....to get back on topic... When is Beck's new album due out? I haven't heard much in regards to any progress in quite some time. I cannot wait!
