Wire

Post by AdvertBreak » 19 Jul 2015, 16:54

Someone get this band a thread!

Uh, well, what is there to say? Three consecutive masterpieces, a long wait, more great music for their mid-80s return, a long wait, more great music in this century.

Chairs Missing is the masterpiece of the masterpieces. Possibly my favourite post-punk album. Everything they have done since 154 has been underrated, no matter how much its been liked. Fuck, they made Ahead! Such a tune! The Ideal Copy and A Bell is a Cup are both top notch throughout. Their 2000s comeback was rightly successful, producing more great albums like Send and more recently Red Barked Tree and Change Becomes Us. Like many good punky bands, they have their "WTF is this" album (Document and Eyewitness) which is simultaneously both entertainingly "unlistenable" and easy to admire, and well, it's no bad album.

Just one of the best bands ever.

I presume you've heard MBV's cover of it?

Never listened to anything other than Pink Flag, which was good.

Give Chairs Missing a go then. It's even better. If I had to choose one song from that record, it'd probably be Mercy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1gAoDmeD7w" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Who's seen them live?

I still have issues with how they're recording the vocals in their latest albums but that's actually pretty good.
