Primal Scream

Post by AdvertBreak » 03 Jul 2015, 22:48

They needed their own thread.

Anyway, Screamadelica and XTRMNTR are both perfect albums. XTRMNTR is my 6th favourite album ever. I'm currently writing a comparison between the two, track by track, partially out of boredom and partially because they are polar opposites (hedonistic ecstasy and millennial anger) that in some places are structured in similar ways (for example, remixes of track 4 on track 10, a reworking of a track from the previous album on there too)

But yeah. I have something for all their albums, even the generally overlooked rootsy/blues rock stuff.

But seriously, Screamadelica and XTRMNTR are perfect.

'Screamadelica' I loved at the time. :D

XTRMNTR passed me by

I'd add Vanishing Point to the list of great Primal Scream records.

I had 'Give Out But Don't Give Up' on cassette from new. It got some use in the car at the time.

But just looked, and it is not on the shelf now (even though St. Etienne 'Tiger Bay' is :? ). Wonder who borrowed it....?

 You Tube here we come....

Accelerator somehow reached number 34 in the charts! As this was going to be Creation's last single, it looks to me that they only chose the track because it made no difference how the song sounded, because there'd be no such thing as commercial suicide when you already cease to exist as a record company other than to finish releasing singles from your last released albums. So the fact that it made the top 40 and therefore must have been played at least once on Radio 1 is brilliant!

Surprising still that Kevin Shields' most aggressively played track ends up the most commercially successful. But yeah if you like Accelerator then I recommend XTRMNTR. It and MBV Arkestra are easily the most noisy tracks.

Great live band. I have seen them several times and they never disappoint.
