Albums You Would Give a 10/10?

Post by TripleJay97 » 27 May 2015, 09:00

I was watching Cheapthony Skatetano's video about this and I got curious. What albums would you definitely give a solid ten? If you wouldn't ever give an album a perfect rating, explain why?

Here are a few of mine:
Blur - 13
Deafheaven - Sunbather
Radiohead - Kid A
Madvillain - Madvillainy
The Smashing Pumpkins - Adore

I would also say Funeral, Low and Pinkerton were 10s. Benji never really appealed to me, it's a bit slow.

Benji is indeed slow, but that's the point, right? It wouldn't be as devastating if it were more upbeat. Btw, Master of Puppets was originally on my list, but then I sometimes prefer Ride the Lightning, so you know, I couldn't make up my mind.

Glad to see the love for Talking Heads. Keep it up, guys.

I know, I understand that, it just doesn't grab me personally :)

I forgot about Neutral Milk Hotel!

I'm not very good a making lists and ranking records... so many I love! I suppose this is a list of those albums that have always meant something special to me, the albums I always go back to after years, the albums I play from start to end, no skipping and then again soon as they're finished. My favourites.

In alphabetical order:

The Beatles - Rubber Soul
The Beatles - Revolver
Beck - Mutations
Beck - Sea Change
Beck - Morning Phase
Carol King - Tapestry
Duran Duran - Rio
Eric Clapton - Unplugged
Francesco De Gregori - Rimmel
Nick Drake - Pink Moon
Nirvana - Unplugged
R.E.M. - Automatic for the People
Simon & Garfunkel - The Concert in Central Park
The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses

There are many many more that are a solid nine or even a nine and a half, and that includes a few Blur albums, that for me went close to the perfect ten a couple of times, but never quite got there. I'm still debating if TMW could be such album. Or "Blur", maybe. In the "almost there" group there are also more by The Beatles, Beck, The Church, The Cure, Doves, Elliott Smith, The Flaming Lips, George Harrison, Gomez, The Jesus and Mary Chain, The La's, MGMT, Neil Young, Nick Drake, Norah Jones, Paul Simon, Primal Scream, R.E.M., Ryan Adams, Simon and Garfunkel, U2...

And there is a very long list of classic/great albums that I put as 8s and 9s.

The above list is kind of my desert island list. And if I were allowed only one Blur album on that island I'd probably take "Midlife" instead.

I'm playing it again now... never gets old. Amazing record. But it may be because I link it to a very happy time in my life. I used to play it a lot at the time and it brings back good memories.
