Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Carl Perkins and The Beatles.

Elvis Presley was a great singer, but he wasn't a R&R songwriter.

Someone mentioned one of my two choices....That is Chuck Berry...

I am shocked that no one yet mentioned Buddy Holly...True, his career obviously was way too brief, but look at the impact he made in such short time!

I didn't want to create a thread specifically for him at the moment, however Happy 90th to the Co-King of Rock, Chuck Berry! In fact, he's releasing his first album in 38 years! https://www.rollingstone.com/music/news ... rs-w445376" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It's difficult to think of anyone who has done so much for music as Chuck with his legendary guitar riffs which will live on until the end of time. Yes, you can throw Elvis, Little Richard and Buddy Holly in there but when it comes to guitar music I don't think there's ANYONE who shaped the future of ROCK MUSIC as much as he did. Those riffs heavily influenced Keith Richards who in turn went on to influence rock music as we know it today with The Rolling Stones.

Or maybe we should be thanking Marty McFly. ;)

I had tickets to see him play in London (I think) about 5-6 years ago but a few weeks before the show was scheduled to happen it was suddenly cancelled. This was before his health incident on stage a few years back where he was slurring words and couldn't play guitar. Must have been related looking back. I don't know how many shows he plays now (if any) but I'm glad he found it in him to give us one last Chuck Berry album. And original numbers on top, incredible! I can't wait to hear it.

Chuck Berry heavily influenced the Beach Boys and also most/if all the British Invasion bands single-handily! Him along w/Buddy Holly indeed... Buddy was starting to develop into a solid guitarist himself.....Guitarwise.... perhaps Bo Diddley and Carl Perkins comes close to Berry.... Then Fats Domino must be included on the short-list with even Johnny Cash (whose earlier material was Rock oriented).

I definitely don't put Elvis on there....At least for substance.... Style...yes... image yes... he was the trailblazers in those areas!

They all excelled at what they did. Elvis was a singer and showman. Those like Berry, Holly and Domino were musicians.
