Ha! This is very true.Sean wrote:I always think that when I listen to it, but then I think that every time I listen to any of their first 8 albums. He's So High wrote:I'm somewhere in the middle of you guys re Monster. It's my least favourite of their first ten records, but I don't hate it either. Again there are some standouts like Let Me In and Tongue. In a way they had to make that album though to break them free artistically - it was sure as hell better than trying to make another AFTP.
But yeah not as good as Begin the Begin and These Days. Christ what an opening! Those first four songs make up probably my favourite opening to an album, ever (not that the rest of the album is bad!). In fact, I think LRP might be my favourite of theirs.

Can we talk about how perfect a song Life and How to Live it is? I'm in love with it
EDIT: Scrap that, the whole of Murmur too. Perfect Circle still gives me chills.

Yeah Fables is another cracking record. Kind of ironic that their most Southern, Gothic sounding album is the one they recorded in London.

That's what I plan to do, I think I'll listen to them chronologically, devoting one week to each record, like I sort of did with Murmur. So Reckoning next it is.Sean wrote:Yessssssssssss!!!Lt Pinkerton wrote:Murmur is fucking amazing. I'm in.
You might as well go in chronological order if you're planning to check it all out. Reckoning next

You're probably semi-trolling but I'm genuinely curious why you don't claim to like anything after Reckoning.

Re: R.E.M. Thread
post-Reckoning just doesn't click for me.
or I could just say "because open strings are beautiful", and post-Reckoning doesn't have a whole lot of those
as for the "went to shit" thing, I take that exact statement back. even if I think they sucked after 1984, they were still good musicians.
"shiny happy people" is still the worst song ever

I only have to look at the current top 40 to see, erm, 40 songs that easily beat "Shiny Happy People" to that title.
