Ditto the appreciation of Donovan. He was good. :D

Scott Walker apparently was uncomfortable with fame. I think his work is like that of Nick Drake - it has had a greater appreciation over the years since (& probably since the 90s especially).

Scott Walker did have a much higher profile than Nick at the time though, in terms of UK TV appearances etc.

Speaking of Nick Drake, his work is pretty underrated, no?

Nick Drake is a big cult artist. Revered almost too much by some you could argue, due to his untimely demise. But it's true, he's not appreciated by a mainstream audience. But then lots isn't.

^And that is the purpose of this thread, amigo.

I recently discovered a fantastic noise/shoegazing band called Bailter Space, I'd advise any MBV fans to check them out!

I've liked everything I've heard by Nick Drake..... I wish that Graham did indeed bring him back to life!

Another one would be Tim Buckley....Just like his son (Jeff), he too passed away WAY too prematurely, but if no one has, I highly recommend you check him out! He had such a unique and beautiful voice! You could tell where Jeff inherited his talents from! Here's two excellent clips which somewhat captures his essence: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vMTEtDBHGY4 and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LtU-9EMSYu0

I always thought Jeff Buckley was overrated, if I'm honest.

Well, he is... Grace has got some beautiful songs and My Sweetheart The Drunk some even better ones (which he couldn't finish), and I want to give him the benefit of the doubt: he was young when he died... but his vocals are sometimes as unbearable as Mariah at her most self-indulgent.

I like Nick Drake - his songs have stood the test of time well.

You nailed...in fact....his dad was the same during his all too brief career as well!

Underrated.....I still think Faith No More are, but I haven't been into them since Jim Martin left....

Faith No More get barely any recognition beyond Epic, and that's just stupid. Mike Patton is one of the greatest vocalists in music history (in fact, I'm pretty sure he has the widest vocal range EVER). His music with Faith No More, Mr. Bungle and all of his other weird and wonderful side projects have been influential to many modern rock bands to this day.

"Angel Dust" is one of the top 10 albums of the nineties.. phenomenal, from start to finish. I think Caffeine is my favourite song of theirs.

My first encounter with them was when I got a Live At Brixton Academy tape from a guy in my street.. must have been '91, and I loved it.. Cowboy Song is another favourite.

Not sure they're underrated.. by the mainstream, yes. by proper music press, back in the nineties maybe, but nowadays I think they're seen for what they are: a hugely infuential band from a time in music when anything was possible.

To some extent, yes.

Though I am sick of hearing Feel The Pain (it's all one of my friends will play on Guitar Hero).

"Feel the Pain" came out after one of the more significant members, Lou Barlow, left the band when he committed himself more to Sebadoh and then Folk Implosion.....

Underrated are Sebadoh and Folk Implosion...you must give them both a listen!
