Re: Gorillaz - Song Machine

I have been listening all day. It's really great, and definitely the best thing Damon has produced since Plastic Beach. Such detail and melody on every song. (Puts The Magic Whip and some of its lesser and disappointing throwback moments - e.g. lonesome street - in context in terms of Damon's engage...

Re: Gorillaz - Song Machine

Best to worst Song Machine thoughts.. Momentary Bliss (a huge grower, this is catchy as hell) Aries (a huge grower, like a lovely B-side of Power, Corruption & Lies) Pink Phantom (as a "torch song", its no Empire Ants, but it's still great) Pac Man (really good) Friday 13th (I think this is understa...

Re: Gorillaz - Song Machine

I was initially underwhelmed as i was hoping for a very big melody e.g. Empire Ants. However the initial verse is quite surprising and not the predictably phrased downbeat Damon we have come to expect, 6lack sounds great imo (i am really taken aback by all the people whingeing about auto tune - have...

Re: Gorillaz - Song Machine

The Elton John artwork by Jamie is terrific. I really really hope the song isn't some plodding jam that squanders the opportunity of getting Elton involved. The very best tune or melody available should have been dedicated to the Elton Song!

Re: Gorillaz - Song Machine

Ghost Ship has more than triple the plays of any of the other songs on that album on Spotify and half a decade after its release is still in the top 5 currently most played Blur songs. Mildly surprising that more people have listened to Ghost Ship than either The Universal or Beetlebum on Spotify. ...

Re: Gorillaz - Song Machine

The yardstick for this Roert Smith tune was (in my head) "Not In Love", that Robert did in 2010 with Crystal Castles. I think this one falls well short of that! I liked the interview on 6 Music as they both sound like eccentric old cool guys. Fair play to Jamie with the visuals, they are consideraly...

Gemma Cairney (BBC radio) interviews Damon about his hobbies

Apologies if this was posted a while back and I missed it. I think it was recorded a couple of years ago. Gemma played Andromeda on the BBC 6 Music breakfast show yesterday then mentioned this - https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0004d8n He is on good form and it's all interesting stuff I hadn't hear...

Re: Gorillaz - Song Machine

I see Damon's resin owl makes an appearance at 1:37 8-) We first saw this ahead of his 2015 solo tour - I think the plan was for it to sit on his piano, but I'm not sure it ever did. Perhaps it didn't want to go out on tour? Nice vocals by the way - I've always liked Damon's world weary delivery......

Re: Graham's soundtrack for Netflix series 'I Am Not Okay With This'

Hello folks, could I possibly be directed to some highlights of Graham's soundtrack type work? I haven't kept track of it. For example, for Monkey I would say "Heavenly Peach Banquet". For Dr Dee I would say "Apple Carts". Etc. The older I get, the more obvious it becomes that Graham's musicianship ...

Re: Gorillaz tour 2021

Rock Wechter (belgium) announced Gorillaz last night...there line up is pretty much a copy and paste of what should have been this year. I expect most festivals will follow the same line up, I guess it's easier just to keep the same acts Interesting that the tune they have chosen for their announce...

Re: Damon and the Paddington movies soundtracks

Joe Cornish explains it pretty well in the first ten mins or so here - its Damon, Suzi, Mike Smith and Nelson. https://www.globalplayer.com/podcasts/episodes/7DrZckj/

"London is the place for me" is such a distinctive (and wonderful) song, I knew Damon had to be involved.

Damon and the Paddington movies soundtracks

Was Damon involved in these? It's suggested he was in a band that performed some of the music. But its hard to get full info online. "London is the place for me" was used as the title of 2 Honest Jon compilations. It seems a pretty big coincidence that it was then prominently used in Paddington. Per...

High time this was leaked privately to us on here! Had hoped someone would offer me a copy for my 40th birthday in February!
