Re: Gorillaz (2001)

The remix reminds me of those sunny 1998-2001 songs, like Len or something. All bright sheen and it just reminds you of white, summer days sitting down a beach all day. It just bursts at the right places too despite the fact there's momentum and melody in every part of the song... but then the choru...

Re: unpopular blur opinions

Yeah it's by no means a great song but I won't be a wally and go back on my word and say it's great now!

It's beautiful and real – every love dies down through rejection and distraction... ah... Damon can tap into real life and real woes...

Re: unpopular blur opinions

Yuki & Hero had potential. I don't hate it and I think it's a nice resolution to the whole era of the band. It just isn't fully there. Nice atmosphere and the lyrics have a good idea but there's just something wrong about it – it's half way between being a song like Battery In Your Leg and being ext...

Blur's setlists going forward

Let's say the band themselves, Blur, decide to get into it again and give it another go. With this hypothetical they wouldn't have an album out, they'd simply be testing the waters or getting back in to playing shows as an entry point. Or, maybe there's a brand new record out – it's up to you. What ...

Re: Think Tank : more Blur or Gorillaz?

When you compare Think Tank to 13, it's a huge detour, and it would have sounded a lot more like Blur if Graham had been in there. In a way it would have been a much better album (especially with that dumb Fatboy Slim song taken out). I still love listening to it and some of the songs are hugely re...

Re: Gorillaz (2001)

Really good set of songs without being a great album in itself, but it's still their second best release to me. So many stellar singles and it's probably a great way to start a side-project. They could have turned in a lot of directions from it and in some ways to me they've ignored some of the bett...

Re: B-Roads

Damon may not be promotional, but he would realise that releasing 'B-Roads' at that crucial time in their career would be negative. Probably because of the negative perception and ramshackle behaviour or 'look;' they'd yet to get the darker edge they did later on in their career. From what we've he...

Re: i can't take it anymore ...

It sounds really good in that performance... sounds like such longing and melancholy... I loved the setlists Damon was doing in that time; it was basically a greatest hits show and he was playing some songs you would never ever hear if you went to see the band proper (All Your Life for Blur, Spittin...

Re: B-Roads

In that period, Oasis were gaining the popular ground. It would have been unwise to release 'B-Roads' which seems to be downbeat. Yeah, all the more reason not to release it if they wanted to drop that whole aesthetic and reinvent themselves. There needed to be a period of silence to reset the cont...

Does anybody know where/when this picture was taken? https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/564x/e7/ca/5b/e7ca5b2388dcb42934e4f42127546ece.jpg Looks like Budapest. Or not. Damon was such a pretty young boy growing up; he's aged well but it's sad seeing him sometimes... just one of those signifiers we...

Re: New The Good, The Bad and the Queen album

Damon is a scattergun, I think he likes playing live as much as he does the puzzle solving of putting together songs, experimenting with sounds, and collaborating with creative and musically diverse people. The big issue is he probably wakes up one morning and wants to perform songs from a project t...

By the way, watching the new Gilmore Girls with my girlfriend and the second ep into it... Re: New The Good, The Bad and the Queen album

Gorillaz is Damon as a solo artist though. I mean technically it's "Gorillaz" but he IS Gorillaz, he writes the songs. But it's a different feel. His voice is literally disappearing from more and more Gorillaz songs and the topics are generally political or involved in his beliefs, whereas Everyday...
