Re: Richard Russell on the Resident Advisor podcast

I listened to the first couple of songs from his solo album and it made a lot of sense. There's a lot of him in Everyday Robots and not enough of Damon's raw songwriting. I think it's a nicely produced album, very clear feel and image, very sterile and watery and crisp, but it's by no means 12 or wh...

Re: The new way of promoting albums

I think this is just the way it works now. Once an album is officlaly relesaed the buzz drops off a cliff. So you have to make the hype in the weeks preceding release. Buzz only drops off if the album isn't very good, which is the case for most of the records he's put out in the last ten years. The...

Re: Singles format question

For Tomorrow was a lead single and a lot more likely to do well, so making it widely available makes a lot more sense. It's about saturation but also back then letting it be able to be heard by whoever wants it. It wasn't like today with everyone hearing songs in the same medium. Some people liked t...

Re: Damon & Graham, Poetry Live

Damon looks great for 50, man. Youthful looking face and skin, pretty slim still. That's without taking into account he was a smoker for what, 20 years at least, has always and still is a big drinker, was a heroin addict, still seemingly smokes pot, and has spent basically his entire life living in ...

Re: Damon planning a new Gorillaz album

Well the Gorillaz album still had singles that could have done well. Thought Andromeda was a fuckin banger and the crowds loved it, even without a festival. It has a Hotline Bling vibe to it. GNQ will probably play small shows. You're kidding yourself if you think it wouldn't sell. Damon could come ...

Re: Damon planning a new Gorillaz album

I don't understand what Damon is doing right now with a new Gorillaz album and a new TGTB&TQ album both coming out this year. His comments recently suggest he'll continue touring with Gorillaz. Does that mean TGTB&TQ will just drop and album followed by another 12 years of nothing? I hope not. Gori...

Re: WigWam Appreciation Thread

This song is like another version of Crazy Beat.

Marketed at children and made by a bunch of coked up fuckheads who never once had the sobriety to ask 'is this okay?'

Re: Damon & Graham, Poetry Live

This is very interesting and the fact the two of them together are doing something in public is... rare. I doubt they even have a cup of tea together anymore unless Damon has a few spare months and no real touring. And they usually don't do things like this at all, I mean work outside of Blur. This ...

Re: Damon planning a new Gorillaz album

Man he's going to Groucho still? Isn't that where Alex went in the 90s when he was the hardcore socialiser in the group? Man.

He's a classic pisshead though, love how he's doing it as a bloke in his middle age. Loves a beer.

Re: The Streets

Mike Skinner is more a person of unique eyes and wordplay than he is a musician. He made two great albums and some lacklustre ones but amongst it he's given out some great advice and left me with some beautiful moments... the last song he did as The Streets was Lock the Locks. I loved that one. Some...

Re: THE GOOD, THE BAD & THE QUEEN THREAD

I like how Damon's excuse for 10 years slipping by was not having a producer on board. Bollocks mate, it's because you decided to release below average albums one after the other! Anyway, great news. Eh I think he has a clear image for the band and their second album; a different side of England. C...

Re: Best era to see Blur live?

Plenty of great eras, even going back to Modern Life Is Rubbish. Modern Life: earnest, out there, trying as hard as possible to actually stay worthwhile as a band while performing their first good album. In retrospect you'd be seeing a small band on the cusp of becoming massive, which was then prett...

Re: Damon planning a new Gorillaz album

He said this like six months ago and then a few days later had a new song in soundcheck, then not long after the band performed it live. Nothing has happened since. I thought he was actually going to put something out and we'd know about it by now, but Gorillaz aren't playing many festivals this yea...
