Re: TGTB&TQ: Telegraph interview 20 January 2007

Yeah this is a great old interview. I made sure to chuck the curry on before I got through it because it's a good read. Simultaneously made me want to listen to This Is A Low and give The Clash a crack, as well as read about Simonen more and like Damon again. It was definitely lop-sided on those two...

Re: The History Of A Cheating Heart

Great last couple of posts. Why does the Now Now suck so much then? Decent lyrics now I've seen them. Melancholy Damon is the best.

Re: TGTBTQ: Merrie Land Album Thread

Keep in mind the management company Damon uses. Not exactly organised. Yeah this is probably the worst of the lot. Weirdly this album, the first, has ended up pretty well known and very well liked online. Five years ago it never popped up but as soon as it was asked about by fans and talked about b...

Re: The History Of A Cheating Heart

Alex said he cheated once, and never did it again. I dunno, it's hard to understand people's orientation from the face of it. Either I don't think society is as sex mad as it makes out or I am completely missing out. Not true. He said he felt bad but continued doing it, with his long-term girlfrien...

Re: The History Of A Cheating Heart

I think the 'big experiences' are probably moments when he has been unfaithful to partners or friends, past and present. "I do love you, but it's just a fact" - It's as though he is telling his partner that he does and always will love them, that never changes regardless, but there's still a curios...

The History Of A Cheating Heart

What is this song about, or more so, what is the reference to cheating? Apparently it's about the pursuit of songwriting and the toll of introspection and reliving big experiences. Obviously there is a reality that for something to be worth writing about, it's going to be effecting you. That can be ...

Ah I'd love to hear this, I've got a minor obsession with Blur and drinking and drugs.

Re: Orbit's Under the Westway

The thing that strikes me is it's just a great song no matter which way you spin it, even with the absolute travesty of autotune in a piano-led track... Just listen to the chords being played on that cheap sounding synth, still swells up the emotions like the original. But yeah it's not especially g...

Re: Democrazy > Demon Days

Amazing how consistently half-baked and plain shitty a lot of Blur/Damon demos are and then how amazing and perfect the final songs can be. There are some bands who have demos full of spirit or that are at least fully-fledged and really promising in their own right. Or just good. But Damon's demos h...

Re: Likelihood of another Blur record

Nah it's just their terrible management. Snapchat is old hack, has been for four years. It's also dying as badly as Facebook. Their marketing managers are completely useless. Blur is like this big, maybe-maybe-not little project they must give to new interns or when they remember 'ah shit we're supp...

Re: Graham gig

I think he could pull of a one-man band type thing, even without loops or drum machines. Stuff like That's What I Wanna Do, Bittersweet Bundle, and if he goes into the stuff like You're So Great you can do a nice mix of songs while changing guitars to give a dynamic to it. Stuff like Coffee & TV, Py...

Re: The new way of promoting albums

I don't think you need a constant barrage of music because no one can sustain that. Lots of great artists have an 18 month period where they're prolific and write their best material and can afford to chuck out an album a year and a heap of b-sides, but most fans would agree Damon's quality has gone...

Re: The new way of promoting albums

Gorillaz is they're a fucking cartoon and an image based band and he clearly doesn't care about that side anymore. How hard is it to make that the main part of promotion? The only time they really did it properly was Demon Days, since then it's more like Damon's collaboration project with a few car...
