DOOM

I discovered DOOM/MF DOOM/Viktor Vaughn/King Geedorah/DANGERDOOM/Madvillian/JJDOOM through a vague memory of a guy with a metal face in the live video of November has Come by Gorillaz. I guess it was curiosity at first, I started Googling for metal mask rapper and recalled seeing the DANGERDOOM albu...

Re: Best Album Opener?

Clearly Tender is far and away one of Blur's best ever songs, but is it the best opener in the context of the rest of 13? Absolutely not. I completely agree. I was thinking about album openers this morning after Stereotypes came on Spotify shuffle play. This is perhaps harder to decide than the bes...

Re: Best album closing track?

It's tough - I'm sticking with Mirrorball for now. I have very fond memories of hearing Optigan 1 for the first time as a youngster - at the time I thought 13 was a bit too dark for me and I prefered the more optimistic side of Blur (I've since grown to love 13 as my favourite Blur album), so having...

Re: Overrated Music

American Idiot was my favourite album for years  As such it be impossible for me to dislike it based on nostalgia alone but everything y'all say rings true. D'aww man I'm sorry. If it makes you feel any better - I'm a Pavement fan :D (noticed one of your earlier messages in the thread) ...

Re: Overrated Music

I wouldn't call Green Day overrated, just shit. I mean, they've got a strong fanbase and all that but they're usually bashed by critics and people older than 15. Not quite. Take for example Rolling Stone's 500 greatest albums list, with as I mentioned Dookie at no. 193 and American Idiot at. 225. H...

Req: Belfast 1999

LONG shot here, this would make my entire year if anyone could find a live recording of this. It was my first Blur gig.

Re: Y'all Doomed 7"

Does anyone else hear the subtle nod to "Strange News from Another Star" in there? I'm loving this track - it's like an awesome, spontaneous jam.

Re: Favourite TMW Studio Versions?

I went for Mirrorball, TIWAS and Pyongyang (even though I prefer the raspy distortion of Graham's live version).

Re: Rate The Magic Whip

I'm giving it a 9 on the basis that it feels like old friends coming together and reminiscing over their past without dwelling in nostalgia whilst advancing their sound yet again. I love how Blur find new ways to grow their sound but managing to sound like Blur at the same time - it's remarkable. So...

It's like one of those ten second interludes from 13 but from an alternate universe where they decided to make it a full track.
Man I'm dying to hear it now - I love every second of 13.

So about them Magic Rips...

Re: The Magic Whip Reviews

I couldn't be happier with the reviews really. At the end of the day what really matters is whether we like it, but having said that I did want the album to get a good reception, which it has. Anything else is just quibbling really. True. That Metacritic score is pretty incredible, I'm delighted fo...

Re: Best album closing track?

See I don't think TIAL would work as a full-on closer. It's so emotional and dramatic and Parklife for the whole is a cheekier, chirpier album than that. I think it needs that little suffix of Lot 105, personally. Or equivalent. That's a great point - TIAL makes a great closer, but in the context o...

Re: The Magic Whip Reviews

I'm surprised they slammed "Mirrorball" — for me it's one of those tracks that is simply objectively good. I think is Blur's best album closer, for them to dismiss it and make bizarre contradictions as indicated by one of the replies above just comes across as a bit of a half-arsed review. Disappoi...
