I remember when "The Fly" was first shown on tv, and it was the main talking point the next day at school (we were 12). Opinions were mixed, but everyone agreed it was a ballsy single.

Re: U2

They're a fantastic band. My wife would probably love it if I disliked bands if their singer's a jerk: I'd spend a lot less on albums. But it's just hard to argue with the run from War until Zooropa , with Achtung Baby and The Joshua Tree being perfect 10s. Their lesser albums also always have a few...

Re: The Genesis Thread

I really like the idea of the updated covers, made even cleverer by the fact that the campaign's called Take a look at me now

Re: Duran Duran Thread

RCM and PG aren't the first times DD have tried to "fit in" musically. "I Don't Want Your Love" was an attempt to fit in with the music at that time, I liked it back then, but it sounds silly to me now. At least Big Thing had "All She Wants Is". "Too Late Marlene", "Land", "Palomino", "Do You Belie...

Re: Overrated Music

I'm not too fond of The Police (they had their moments), but I love at least 3 of Sting's solo records (Nothing Like The Sun, The Soul Cages & Ten Summoner Tales).

Re: Le Bowie Thread

It may sound pretentious AF but Warszawa is my favourite Bowie song ever. Hearing that for the first time stopped me in my tracks. I'd known Ziggy and his then-recent output, and his greatest hits of course, but when I heard "Warszawa" (and all of Low really) for the first time I remember thinking,...

Low

Fantastic record. As for the new one, I'm looking forward to it! "Sue" was amazing, and it's time that the man did something crazy again: the fact of The Next Day's release was more surprising than the actual music on it.

January's going to be fabulous.. this, Suede, Tindersticks.

Re: Duran Duran Thread

I guess "Paper Gods" is being well received, but I just still honestly cannot get into it myself...Oh well..... Nope, I gave it a few more shots, and I cannot get any feel for it. It's too loud, cold and shouty. I miss the Simon of "Do You Believe In Shame?" or "Winter Marches On", "The Seventh Str...
