Re: Unpopular Opinions Thread

Speaking of selling out... Metallica's "Load" really isn't too bad in retrospect... had some brilliant moments on it! And St. Anger > Black Album I disagree with you, but I certainly love Robert Trujillo on bass! Does he play on St ANger? I thought they got him after completing the album (if I reca...

Re: Unpopular Opinions Thread

Truth be told, I don't like the song Imagine, Makes 2 of us. I think it's a dreadful song. Not better than your average Coldplay album track.. and those are pretty lousy to begin with. The album's got some good songs on it, though Plastic Ono Band and Walls And Bridges are miles better. All the oth...

That's quite an understatement for what some called the worst album ever

It's, of course, nowhere near the worst album ever, and it's not the worst Duran Duran album either. There's a fair few fabulous songs there.

I must admit they've never been able to interest me, though I love that joke/riddle: What has 9 arms and sucks?

Re: The Depeche Mode Thread

It's really quite remarkable how Songs of Faith and Devotion doesn't sound dated at all! It all stands up very well today. I can't say how I Feel You fitted when it was released in 1993 but it sounds like it could have been made today, the production stilll sounds fresh. This is particularly surpri...

Tonight is a bit shit. David Bowie (1967) is a bit shit.

The Next Day is just a little overrated (I hesitate to use "is", and not "was", because general opinion seems to be moving towards it being a 6 or 7 out of 10 record now the initial excitement is gone)

Really boring music with awful shouting on top. I don't get her popularity at all.

Re: INXS Thread

I love two of their albums ( Shabooh Shoobah and Welcome To Wherever You Are ). They totally got it right for those. On the others there are great songs, but the albums on the whole just miss that sweet spot. I'll say, though, that any time there's a discussion about songs that should have been sing...

Re: Duran Duran Thread

Liberty is great. It doesn't deserve its reputation as a lesser album at all, and I was happy to read a recent interview with Le Bon in which he stood up for it. It's not that different from The Wedding Album , which is seen as one of the group's best; the difference is that the world was ready for...

Re: Songs which sound like other genres

I never saw it as an American britpop, or British grunge album. It's this weird little record that sounds pretty unique. If anything, it sounds like a tribute to 70's Bowie.. or what Bowie would sound like if he was part of a band with somewhat amateurish musicians, instead of backed by session guys...
