Re: B-Sides

For some reason I just totally disregard the whole Leisure era of the band.. It just doesn't even feel like Blur save for 'Sing'. Popscene onwards is where my listening starts. I know it's an irrational prejudice to have, but I just can't commit to it! Haven't listened to Leisure from start to finis...

Re: TGTBTQ: Merrie Land Album Thread

Very impressive. As I've said, anything above 6.5 from Pitchfork is very good.

Re: B-Sides

Now that you say it, The Outsider would have been worthy of being on Think Tank. Brilliant song, reminds me of early MIA. Very eclectic. Think Tank B sides probably on par with S/T.. I dunno why I just find TGE era a great time. Could tell they wanted to take the plunge into more free-form, experime...

Re: B-Sides

TGE wins. Tame and TMWLH really lay the groundwork for the following 2 albums. No monsters in me is class too. Modern Life is Rubbish is a close second for me though as far as B sides go. Parklife's are awful, S/T are strong, but I can't even recall any proper songs in the 13 lot other than So You....

Re: New Dave interview

Thanks for sharing. Thoroughly enjoyed that. It's funny, Dave was always the most reserved Blur member when they were properly active in the 90s and early 00s with regard to doing press and interviews, but he actually gives the most insight into how the band operates and is very open and candid. Dam...

Re: TGTBTQ: New single "Merrie Land"

It's songs like this that are the reason I fell in love with Damon's songwriting in the first place. Bittersweet, witty, slightly absurd, melancholy and above all comforting. In a strange way it's actually more Blur than anything on TMW. Heavy Parklife/TGE vibes. Love it so much. Serious redeemage a...

Re: Blur - The Magic Whip

It seems there's no "in-between" on "TMW".... Either you really love it like me or extremely loathe/dismiss it (and that also applies to "TT" as well)..... I would say I buck that trend. I like the album but there's something about the way it came to be that makes it feel like it lacks a bit of tru...

Re: THE GOOD, THE BAD & THE QUEEN THREAD

To be honest, I have noticed in recent years that any publication that still tries to punt physical copies tends to review virtually everything pretty leniently. My theory is that it's probably because the industry is dying such a dire death, which extends to music magazines, so it's probably best t...

Re: Terrapin

Well I think anything from Syd's solo work has a tremendously dark and heavy atmosphere, for better or worse.. Nothing plagiarized melodically, but the strumming pattern, general feel and use of open string chords on guitar is very similar. Also the vocal delivery. Worth noting that Terrapin was rec...

Is it just me, or is it fair to say Miss America is massively inspired by this Syd Barrett song? :P

Dave Rowntree's influences.

We are all well aware that Alex was massively influenced by 80s pop and post-punk bands like Duran Duran and New Order(from what I recall from Bit of a blur). Damon and Graham both cite 60s pop bands like The Kinks, The Beatles, The Who, early Floyd/Syd Barrett with Damon also taking on inspiration ...

Re: The History Of A Cheating Heart

I think it's broader than that... In track by track Damon doesn't mention cheating at all. I talk about relationships with my family, from childhood to now. It's driven by mistakes, happiness, dreams, expectations. How you find yourself locked in cycles and how you get out of them. I know that my e...

Re: The History Of A Cheating Heart

with such extended periods travelling allover the world, faraway from partners for so long, stay completely faithful. Not everyone is sex mad  Yes, but it comes with the territory of touring! Gigs are party atmospheres mainly and the Gorillaz collective are pretty renowned for still throwing t...
