Re: unpopular blur opinions

it's a great album. Better than Parklife. Um, no. TGE is Blur's Be Here Now, a band trying too hard to emulate the success of their previous record but coming up with an album that is sometimes hard to listen to. Songs like Country House, Top Man, Mr. Robinson's Quango and Dan Abnormal are cheesy a...

Modern Life Is Rubbish: The first ever britpop album!?

While listening to Modern Life Is Rubbish today I was thinking about all the retrospective reviews I've read in recent years about how the release of the single Popscene then the proceding album are seen as being the birth of 'britpop', but how much of that album is actually what we now refer to as ...

Re: Think Tank : more Blur or Gorillaz?

Ambulance was originally intended to be a Gorillaz song and On the way to the club, Me, white noise, The outsider, Brothers and Sisters, Gene by gene, Don't bomb when you're the bomb and Jets are so Gorillaz it's unreal. Don't Bomb is not on Think Tank. It's not even from the same sessions. My mist...

Re: Think Tank : more Blur or Gorillaz?

Shit... What have I done haha. I of course jokingly listed Think Tank as my 4th Favourite Gorillaz album in the "rank the Gorillaz albums" thread. It was more tongue and cheek than anything else, but it is an interesting topic... Well, it is a Blur album because it features 75% of the original line ...

Re: Rank the Gorillaz Albums...

No love for Laika here? Possibly my favourite gorillaz album :) Well, technically it's not a Gorillaz album. more gorillaz-y than think tank I were just having a laugh squire. Wasn't Ambulance originally to be a Gorillaz song though? And Me, white noise, The Outsider and On the way to the club are ...

Re: New The Good, The Bad and the Queen album

This Gorillaz campaign is quite baffling...very odd promotion. I don't think they can really be arsed given how little they will make on record sales regardless of what chart position it is. It's all about just getting out and touring. Their festival and world tour will be their main focus. The vid...

Re: B-Roads

Yeah, all the more reason not to release it if they wanted to drop that whole aesthetic and reinvent themselves. There needed to be a period of silence to reset the controls and not have it convoluted with the previous, 'tired' mould.

Re: B-Roads

As far as I'm aware the filming took place in 1995 post TGE, which would probably mean a release, had it occurred, would have been some time in 1996. Though, it would be good if someone who has seen it could confirm the period of time the filming covers... A small detail I hadn't yet obsessed over o...

Re: GORILLAZ: Humanz Album Thread // 28th April

Put it on in the headphones and took it in over a long run through the Scottish countryside. There wasn't anything I disliked as such, though save for 5 or 6 songs I really liked it all sounded a bit too abrasive and jittery. I suppose it's actually quite in tune with a lot of modern grime, hip hop ...

Re: Damon+Morrissey- 'entertaining month-long email exchange

Gosh this would have been quite something. And probably the most refreshing thing Moz could have done since the early 90s.

Maybe Damon will produce something of his in future, get Morrissey to ditch the wedding band he's had backing him and branch out a little bit musically.

Re: Alt-Blur

Read an interview from the TT period earlier where Damon says how when Graham came into the studio after getting sober, the material the 3 of them had worked on "just didn't work" as a 4 piece. Really got me thinking that there really doesn't sound like there'd be much room at all for Graham to expr...
