Re: Req: 1997 Australian shows

Yeah, that would indeed be Metro City then. Guess it was changed and I guess the owners controlled both venues back then.

Re: Don't bomb when you are the bomb

I'm pretty sure that was my angle; both are not big singles being pushed with pretty covers, an expensive video, and a real attempt to get top 10. They're just off the cuff releases. ffs the venom being spat in here is over the top. This is a nerdy forum for a band who peaked 20 years ago. I don't g...

Re: Don't bomb when you are the bomb

I don't know why you've compared it to colours, what's colours got to do with anything? What about....hmmm lets say I got Law. I got Law was a bside, is definitely a demo but it's not a white label it had the bands name on it. They were happy to release that. The bugman remixes were pretty awful. R...

Re: Don't bomb when you are the bomb

I remember a feeling if intense disappointment mixed with a feeling that something was very wrong within the Blur camp when it came out and I was soon to find out that I wasn't wrong... I also thought at the time (and still think) it just sounds like one of Damon's super rough, home demos without a...

Re: Req: 1997 Australian shows

Pavlich, the show actually took place in Perth (I think the venue is currently called Metro City?). Did it? Not doubting you or anything but Metropolis seemed to host a lot more bands of a similar ilk around this era. The touring company lists it as Freo: https://www.frontiertouring.com/retail/attr...

Re: addiction and blur

Bizarre terminology throughout this. A smacky and a pisshead? Addiction is painful, non-trivial, compulsive and complicated. Equally, someone isn't automatically addicted, much less a 'smackhead', if they have at one point or other used drugs recreationally. That isn't to play down the impact which...

Re: Req: 1997 Australian shows

just got this show from Perth 1997 https://mega.nz/#F!ZRZDjYQa!vDIjEt43jhZifSKpx4YcXQ Woah, how'd I miss this? I live on the very street this gig was played at. fwiw, this should probably be labelled as being in Fremantle, not Perth. Fremantle is a town within Perth, but confusingly, there were two...

addiction and blur

The two proponents of Blur are Albarn and Coxon. Basically. One was a smacky, the other a pisshead. It's as well known as Oasis being pricks. But unlike that, there's very very little online documentation. Era and time aside, why has this been mostly eschewed? Alex James was a cokehead and said in h...

Re: the Good, the Bad & the Queen - the end?

That final song on the last album is absolutely beautiful though, one of those times when you go... you wanna shake Damon and tell him melancholy is his absolute strong point, despite him being such an arrogant little prick.

Re: Blur fan first and foremost or Damon Albarn fan?

tbh I'm pretty content with Blur. I never thought I'd get to experience a new album cycle and it was a hope to see them live. Comeback albums are usually pretty naff – keep the memory of your band as they were, youthful and a product of its time. Gorillaz have been pretty shitey for me since about D...

Re: the Good, the Bad & the Queen - the end?

Some things are only supposed to be finite. I never liked them as much as I willed myself to, but they go out with a pretty tight little discography and a vibe of being well curated.

Re: the Good, the Bad & the Queen - the end?

Damon announced it at their last scheduled gig appearance, which was at Pinkpop or Pukkelpop festivals in Europe. 'This is it, after this, poof; gone' he said.

Re: The Great Escape = the code for life

Your explanation of the entire album is spot on. Wasn’t the song “country house“ about a record exec who made Blur miserable? I’ve even heard Damon introduce the song in concert as being about “neurotic pop stars”. That said, as a working man who scraped together enough to escape the mandatory “dra...

Re: Is The Great Escape the worst Blur album?

Fool's Day and Westway are the two best songs since Coxon originally left (Out of Time might push em, Ambulance, Ghost Ship maybe too) and the perfect template for an album that would've been much more perfect than The Magic Whip.
