Re: New release: Live at the BBC

Nah this is classic shit marketing and a disappointing way to find out about something cool: it's legitimate. Every Damon Albarn project has some strange mandate where his promotional companies seem embarrassed to big up anything. This'll be announced through a press release like it's 1991. The artw...

Re: Gig: BST Hyde Park, London, 20 Jun 2015

I went to this show, my first big overseas gig actually. Probably my first big gig at this scale. Being 21 and travelling around the UK and Europe was a thrill and this gig really stands out to me. I'd been dreaming of going to England since I was 13 and staying up all night watching the Premier Lea...

Re: Parklife 25 - Absolute Radio Audio Documentary

According to Alex, Girls & Boys premiered at a festival in Sweden, summer 1993, supposedly Fest #1? In Alex James's autobiography Bit of a Blur he mentions this. It's one of the few real insights into how songs were made, recorded, how they hit the world. Probably artistic kindness but he says they...

Re: TGTBTQ: Merrie Land Album Thread

I disagree on Gorillaz. When it came to the live shows, yes, they were handled and covered well. But both albums were handled badly. Very much like Merrie Land right now. No-one is talking about it, absolutely no-one. The same can't be said if you go back 14 years to Demon Days. EVERYONE was talkin...

Here's a pretty cool look back at Blur's 1995 show in Grimsby.

Re: BLUR LIVE @ Africa Express: The Circus!

Wow, a reunion hey? Not hugely surprised but it's definitely a nice footnote and cool to see. It's cool to see them all open to ideas like this and happy to have a jam. Clover Over Dover makes it worthwhile; you'd almost rather them do a few small get-togethers and do it right, than them hitting fes...

Re: Damon in Face

I must admit it passed me by at the time, even though I was following Blur's musical activities. It is notable that Damon was not a front person of the project, which retrospectively seems unusual. Robert Carlyle was massive at the time and this sort of film was his go-to job back then. Even Ray Wi...

Re: B-Roads

I know a lot of people say B-Roads looks crappy, but that's an aesthetic and look I love. Well, when it's genuine. I don't even know if it's good proper editing with overlays and titles, but I think the fact its old, lost, and revered goes well with the fact its outdated, incomplete, and grungey.

Damon in Face

What do people think of Damon and this movie? Not especially the movie – which is generally disliked on the internet, but I found it alright and pretty much a break even – but just Damon's performance, the fact he was in a film, why he wasn't, what you thought... Was anyone around at the time? Do th...

Re: Africa Express: The Circus

Is this just a bunch of songs where African musicians and Anglo ones play together? Ellie Rowsell would be cool to see. Not sure how a Good, The Bad & The Queen gig is a one-off though.

... and I seem to remember that at one of the Hyde Park gigs Damon said that Parklife was inspired by watching people in Hyde Park... I was either there or I read this somewhere :) https://twitter.com/blurmex/status/526768747806486529 Never knew this existed 'til the other day and also didn't know ...

Insane re: the jump alright. This sort of stuff is fascinating.

Is Seven Days only available here?

Anyway, how did this exactly leak?

Re: Symbols on the Cover Art of Colours

Waaaaaitwut? I've never even zoomed in on this let alone realised it was a (vague) map of all those old Think Tank session songs. Unreal. I'm a bit of an unheard, unreleased song nerd. And I think we all find the time roughly before Think Tank and up until about Westway to be pretty interesting – pr...
